Scientific Breakthroughs In Clinical Depression and Symptoms

Jul 19, 2008
Many people do not even know they are suffering from depression, missing all the telltale signs so they are unable to do anything about the situation. Doctors who specialize in mental health conditions will tell you that sufferers of depression will usually have all the symptoms of depression available.

You probably know someone who is depressed and are aware of the range of symptoms they may exhibit at any given time, even if they do not. Help is available long before the person suffering from depression exhibits every symptom and the sooner they receive help the better.

Sadness over an extended period of time and no interest in life around them are often the first signs of depression. Apart from being the earliest signs of depression, they are also the two most common and easy to spot even without professional help.

This feeling of sadness, especially for yourself often culminates in feelings that there is nothing at all in your life to appreciate and look forward too. Pessimism is another symptom of depression where the sufferer is usually very negative about things and again the feeling of hopelessness comes in to mind.

A lack of incentive to carry out even basic tasks in life and a continual feeling of guilt about something as well as no self worth are all symptoms of depression. We all deserve to be happy but people who have symptoms of depression do not feel this way and believe that they deserve to be unhappy. The signs of depression are quite clear and visible to an outsider but the person suffering from depression and low self-worth probably cannot see their situation improving.

Once you have the lost interest in anything that at one time made you happy then what do you do? Once this situation has occurred then it really does mean that something serious is happening.

Physical exhaustion, whilst not actually real is another sign that the condition is worsening. Mental disorders such as depression often present signs of physical deterioration and there will undoubtedly be serious ramifications to their long term health if the situation does not improve.

A depressed person will have trouble concentrating plus a poor memory and is indecisive which can be another tell-tale symptom of depression. This can culminate in failing to remember things that happened or what other people have said and this lack of interest actually makes depressed people very inattentive.

We all know how difficult it is to concentrate when we feel tired so erratic sleep patterns may exacerbate the problems they have with concentration and memory. Just as with sleep, eating can also be affected with either the person eating too much or too little. Often when the situation has been allowed to continue, the person will have a morbid interest in death and dying but the worse aspect of depression is the effect it has on the sufferer's health with headaches, digestive disorders and other pains being quite normal.
