The Aftermath of the eBay Product Ban

Jul 21, 2008
There's no doubt about it; the digital product ban on eBay was damaging to those of us who were selling e-books. Entire businesses were lost and a great number of business people were in trouble. But all is not lost. In this article, I will discuss the possible strategies and business plans that you can utilize to help you get back in business.

It's not secret that eBay was a great tool for promoting your digital media products. It attracted a lot of consumers and the majority was interested in making a purchase. Now with the ban in place, it may not be a bad idea to start up your own website. This may be one of the options people who suffered from the ban may go to first. It is a simple and direct way of promoting your business. While you may not get the traffic eBay provides you will also be cutting out a middle man and be able to work with the customer directly. You can also sell your products simply and easily to the consumer by providing them with downloadable links.

But this option also has a downside. You must be able to generate a traffic flow to your site. Not only must you be able to use keywords efficiently so your site is advertised properly on search engines, but you must also be knowledgeable of Internet marketing. You need to learn how to use affiliate network marketing channels like pay per click campaigns to maximize your website's potential.

However, that's not the only strategy you can use to get your business back on its feet. It may sounds drastic but you can also transform your e-books into a digital media product like CDs or DVDs. In this case, you would be allowed to sell them on eBay again, but it will also appeal to people who are interested in other learning mediums. Not everyone is interested in reading a book on their computer. If you are selling a DVD instructional video or an audio book, you may attract new customers who were turned off by the e-book.

Understanding how to market your product on the Internet successfully is the key to overcoming the damages done by the eBay digital product ban. Setting up a website or transforming your product to a different type of media are both good strategies but they can both still fall short if you don't understand how to market your products efficiently on the Internet.
