The Three Main Steps Of Alcohol Treatment In Wyoming

Jul 22, 2008
Each rehab center has a different program for alcohol treatment in Wyoming. But basically, these differences are only in the subtleties that go with the programs. On a broader note, the programs are fairly similar. The main alcohol treatment program in Wyoming consists of three essential steps, which are intervention, detoxification and rehabilitation.

It must be noted that these components are not disjoint sets of the treatment program, but are rather separate parts of the whole program. All three must be used together to make for a complete treatment program. Let us see how these three essentials form an appropriate program for alcohol treatment in Wyoming.

The First Step: Intervention

Intervention actually means the participation of some external agency in the addiction treatment of the person. This can be provided by the family (which is true in most of the cases) or friends, while other institutions and agencies may also intervene in the alcohol addiction treatment of a person. These may include the employers of the person with the alcoholic habit, or educational institutions or even religious leaders.

The main intention of alcohol intervention in Wyoming is to create the awareness in the patient that they are with a problem that needs to be treated. The rate of denial among alcoholic patients in Wyoming is indeed quite high. These people are not willing to accept that their habit can be dangerous to them and they will certainly not want to entertain the suggestion that they can get treatment to come out of their dependency. On the contrary, they will become defensive and may go further into the addiction.

However, intervention groups can be trained by an intervention specialist in Wyoming to help motivate and convince the patients to come out of their vehement denial phase. This is usually done through a carefully planned program in which the patients are counseled by the intervening people individually and in groups. The session is usually rehearsed in advance so that nothing goes wrong when the plan is in action.

One more job of the alcohol intervention in Wyoming is to select a suitable treatment center for the patient and get them admitted there. This can be done in consultation with a substance abuse counselor who will not just locate the treatment center but will also suggest what kind of treatment would be best for the patient with their conditions.

The Second Step: Detoxification

Detoxification is the most important phase of alcohol treatment in Wyoming. Here, the patient is made to abstain from the substance which would cause withdrawal pangs in the patient depending on how strong their addiction was.

Generally, the withdrawal begins to appear in about a day and on the second and third day of the addiction it can be at its peak. The treatment providers will put the patient on medications that can help allay these withdrawal effects. Usually, patients are out of their alcohol withdrawal pangs within three to seven days of beginning the detox program.

Because of the sensitive nature of detox, it is always provided as an inpatient treatment option which is done under constant medical attention. However, if people are only mildly into alcohol abuse, then it can be provided as an outpatient treatment too, but with regular monitoring of the treatment progress.

The Third Step: Rehabilitation

This begins only when the patient is completely out of the withdrawal effects. At this step, many things are tried to be done at once. The first point is to keep a relapse situation away, so the patient is put on maintenance medications to curtail any further temptations.

But the person must also work at not getting the urge for the substance at all. This is possible after a careful counseling therapy in which the patient is taught methods like Yoga, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, etc. which can help them control their urges in a better manner.

Another purpose of the rehab program in alcohol treatment in Wyoming is to make the patient comfortably readjust to the society that was left behind due to the addiction. This can be a long process, but it always begins with instilling confidence in the patient that it is possible to defeat the urges for the substance on a permanent basis.

The patient is exhorted to rejoin social groups that they might have abandoned because of the addiction. The patient is even motivated to take up a hobby or a job that could very constructively distract the patient from getting back into the addiction.
