A Look At Best Insider Travel Tips

Jul 23, 2008
You can almost guarantee that if there is going to be a problem it will be when you are on vacation in an unfamiliar place but by following a few simple rules, the consequences can be minimized. The annoying thing is that a few bad situations can spoil a whole week or two weeks vacation. In the worst case scenarios, passports, credit cards and cash may have to be replaced.

When visiting a new country, traveling safely is really a matter of common sense because you will not be aware of local traditions or problems that are faced by travelers. Nature gave us all a very effective means for survival in unknown circumstances; it's called instinct and you must learn to trust it.

When you go out to discover new places, bars and restaurants, think about what you are taking with you; are all your credit cards, passport and airline tickets for example necessary where you are going? Expensive and necessary items like identification tickets for example should be left at the hotel in their safe or the room safe if you have one as it is much easier to recover your vacation if you only lose a few important belongings instead of all of them.

One suggestion that can help reduce the risk of losing everything is placing cash and credit cards in different locations like pockets, wallets and bags; a pickpocket who is trying to steal from you will only get a small amount, leaving you with means to get back to the hotel. Many couples traveling will have 2 credit cards, both accessing the same account but it is much easier to use two cards, each accessing separate accounts so if one is lost or stolen, there is a backup.

Some people just make it easy for snatch thieves who specialize in grabbing bags and cameras for unsuspecting tourists who have them hanging from their shoulder so to prevent this make sure the strap is over the head as well. Some of the easiest crimes involve snatch thieves that may actually work in teams; they locate unsuspecting victims who have a bag on their shoulder for instance that can be easily grabbed by a passing cycle or scooter.

We have all read about the different scams that people have fallen for and the truth is people continue to fall for them because the scammers are professionals and they're good at it. This complacency can cause problems because these people make their living doing this sort of thing but just a little extra vigilance can make it much harder for them to take what does not belong to them.

One way to stop some of the pick pocketing is to place a padlock on you backpack as any delay means they will usually try on someone else. Some people are always losing their keys which isn't a good idea when you are on vacation so a quick remedy is to buy a D-shackle or similar and attach it your belt or backpack with the keys attached.

Most guys (and some girls) will place their wallets in the back pocket of their jeans or shorts making them an easy target for pick pockets; so change your habit and place wallets in the front pockets or perhaps buy a bum bag or money belt. The only reason these types of events happen on vacation is most people are not traveling safely so by maintaining your guard, many awkward situations can be avoidable.
