"Selling" yourself at an interview is not an easy task. An interview is not just a general chat but an assessment of your abilities. If you attend an interview unprepared, you are going to find yourself in difficulties. It is essential to prepare well if you wish to have a successful interview.

Prior to the job interview, collect all relevant data about the company. Visit web sites and highlight pertinent information about the company. Jot down the standard type of questions you will be asked by the interviewer and prepare highly polished answers taking into consideration the facts and your relevant qualifications. Remember that the entire outcome from the interview is dependent on how you answer the questions and how well you are able to justify your opinions. Be prepared to state why you want this job and why you wish to work for the organization. You will also be asked questions concerning any weaknesses and strengths you may have, your best achievements, what your career goals are, what your experience to date has taught you and many other general questions. Your responses to these questions should be informative and you must justify your opinion in detail. Provide some examples by which you can best explain your opinion. Have prepared a detail study of examples you may wish to use. Obtain a copy of the company's terms and conditions and study it carefully to save some time at the interview. Collect evidence of your qualifications and achievements to ensure that you place yourself ahead of the competition. Your resume or CV should be current, neatly organized and relevant to the position. Carry at least two copies of this resume with you even if you have already given a copy to the interviewer. Revise the company's relevant issues and create some questions to ask regarding the company role and related topics. Search for the company's trade policies and ask for clarification of any doubts you may have.

Always keep your aim, short-term goals and long term goals relevant to the position. Speak truthfully and clearly. Show a keen attitude and build the rapport with the interviewer. Justify to them how you will achieve your goals within the company. Have in your possession at least two or three excellent references, as these will undoubtedly put you one step ahead of any other candidates. Have a positive attitude, be enthusiastic and remain focused. Have in your mind various strategies to deal positively with the flaws you may have. Sit for some personality tests as these may show your merits and weak points and you will be able to act positively from the results. Last but not least, dress appropriately for the occasion. Wear suitably formal attire, be confident in your appearance and look the part.
