Getting Sick From Your Car?

Jul 23, 2008
We all spend countless hours in our automobile, driving to and from work, going to the store, or on that family vacation. Our vehicle is probably one of the top three places we spend our time.

At home, or at work we take certain precautions to clean and disinfect on a regular basis. Our floors, counter-tops, kitchens, bathrooms, desks etc are always kept clean. But what about cleaning our car? To keep it looking nice we wash it on a regular basis. But what about the interior, the area we actually occupy? When was the last time you did anything more than dust or vacuum?

Perhaps you used a window cleaner to clean the inside of your windows. Was that a good choice? Your windows are certainly cleaner, but did you put harmful chemicals into the air? Have you sprayed an "Air Freshener" into the vehicle to keep it smelling nice? If so, did it contain toxic chemicals?

Considering all the time we spend in our cars, with our families and even our pets, we need to make more of an effort to keep it safe for all. Have you ever noticed that the air coming out of your dashboard vents when you run your air-conditionng stinks? What is that smell? Can it make you sick? The answer is yes it can. That's the reality to many of us ignore, and to few take a simple action to prevent.

There are several simple solutions to these problems that can make our vehicle a healthier place to be. By following these procedures we can eliminate potential hazards.

Start by eliminating trash build up on the floors and under the seats. Clean the interior at least once a week. Keep the inside of the car as clean as the exterior.

Second, eliminate toxic chemicals. Plain old tap water and a good Anti-Microbial Micro-Fiber cloth are all you need. Use this combination to clean the windows, wipe down the dash board and door panels, and do general dusting with.

Third, Eliminate toxic chemicals. Stop using air fresheners and glass cleaners etc. altogether. Clean has no odor. That's correct: Clean doesn't smell. Cleaners and air fresheners can contain toxic chemicals. Toxic chemicals can make you sick! Stop using toxid chemicals. Use an odor eliminator (preferably an odorless one) to eliminate foul odors.

Finally, treat the duct system on your car as well. Like the duct system in your home, odors and harmful bacteria can build up here. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean its not dirty and capable of causing you medical problems.

The procedure for this is as follows: Using an odorless odor eliminator and disinfectant combination spray throughout the vehicle. Next, spray two or three trigger sprays into each interior air vent. Start the car, and turn your fan to "fan only" setting. Go to the exterior of the vehicle and spray 15-25 trigger sprays into the air intake cowl located at the base of the windshield. Wait a few minutes and then turn your system setting to MAX AIR. Spray interior again. Close the car up and let it run for 3-4 minutes.

By repeating this process of deodorizing and disinfecting your car three to four times a year you can assure that it is a healthier place for you, your family and your pets.
