The Way to Go - Insure your Dog!

Jul 24, 2008
Your dog is full of life, and makes yours a whole lot better I would bet. But what happens when your pet is under the weather and you have to find a lot of cash to pay for the vets bills?

Of course if your pet pal gets sick, you as a responsible owner would see to it that your animal receives the medical help it needs. Just think a random bite to your dog or cat could end up in bills beyond your biggest nightmares!

So why don't you get some pet insurance - after all it could end up SAVING you a small fortune, and just think what you could spend that saved money on.... And here's another sobering thought but another reason to get insurance - did you know you would have to pay for healthcare for someone your dog bit?

Don't be concerned that you will have to go to a designated clinic, all companies will pay up wherever you go within the USA, and some cover you in other countries too.

Embrace prides itself on providing affordable, flexible care. It's not a case of choosing option a, b or c, you choose what you want to pay per month, the degree of cover and how much the excess will be.

In addition many insurers only cover standard issues such as non-elective surgery, anesthesia, blood tests, hospitalization, medication prescribed by a vet and visits to the clinic.

However there is a whole range of things basic insurance does not cover you for i.e. vaccinations, chronic and genetic diseases ( and boy, these can be costly) and if you are a fan of complementary therapies, you might as well forget it with most of the policies available.

The people at Embrace put the needs of the pet and their owners first, and tried to come up with a better quality insurance product. The USA does not take up pet insurance like other nations in the world, for example one in five of the animal-loving Brits' pets are covered; thanks to easy claim procedures and few complaints. There is an entire cycle of goodwill with vets knowing it's a positive move for the client, suggesting the product and the client taking it up because they know their pet will be covered.

Did you know that people who have taken out pet insurance will go to the vet much more readily than those who don't have insurance, as they know they are covered, so they will get even a minor issue treated, which is better than leaving it. It's not rocket science to see that this is a much more positive situation for the pet too.

Insurance companies often get a bad rep for screwing their clients out of money, but Embrace is a bit different. For example most companies will make the consumer take out routine care ( eg covering annual clinic visits, immunizations, neutering and so on) but Embrace prefer the client pays for these type of procedures out of their own pocket.

Of course these procedures are essential commitments to your dog's health. Embrace fully recommends every owner exercises routine care but knows the raised premium required to cover these things is probably higher than the cost of the procedure, knowledge they have chosen to pass onto the general public.

Of course there are a few things to bear in mind; pre-existing conditions are unlikely to be covered unless there has been a year of no evidence of the condition. Also there is a waiting period before you can claim on your insurance. This is to prevent people rushing to buy insurance after their pet has gotten sick.

You love your home, so you insure it to keep it safe, you love your pet, so isn't pet insurance a good idea too? People always think it won't happen to them or their pet, but then get caught out with some tough decisions over life or death treatment. That isn't a situation you would like to find yourself in, is it?
