Be Cautious when Watching Any Woodworking Show

Jul 25, 2008
There are many different home improvement shows that you can see on TV networks all around the world, these are encouraging many people to attempt home renovation projects by themselves rather than getting in professional health.

A number of recent surveys have indicated that around 60% of people who did their own renovation projects first decided how much they could afford to spend. However there were 27% of people that didn?t set the budget in stone and ended up paying much more than expected.

It can be very difficult to stick to a home renovation budget, and part of the reason for this is the many home renovation shows. These make you tempted to try something which you can?t possibly do. Many people start off by trying to stick to their budget but quite often find out that they go off course. These home improvement shows can cause you to think bigger, which stretches your budget even further.

It?s important to try and account for these extra costs before you actually start the project. By having some form of contingency fund you are surer that you will be able to finish the project on time. Many home improvement experts suggest that you should get plenty of money available before starting, you could consider a personal line of credit which allows you a little bit of flexibility. You don?t have to use the line of credit, however it?s there if you actually need to use it. If for example you found out that your home needed rewiring then this could be quite expensive.

The same surveys indicated that 68% of people got cash from their savings in order to pay for the improvements, however if you don?t plan properly you could quite easily find yourself running out of money. 34% of homeowners are actually borrowing money in order to renovate their home.

Home Improvement shows are even damaging to your marriage!

Home improvement shows on TV can glorify it and make it look extremely easy. If a couple try any of these seemingly simple procedures they will almost certainly find them much more stressful and difficult than they expected. It is thought that this can actually cause arguments, and possibly divorce. 80% of families have arguments because of DIY projects not going to plan.

Amazingly two thirds of families think that a clash over color schemes would be one of the most likely reasons for a couple to break up.

You should consider calling in a professional tradesman to help you out, this may make all the difference in your marriage and happiness! Fixing your own DIY projects can cause lots of unwanted stress.

House prices are not very stable at the moment, it is thought that 84 percent of people are redecorating rather than moving.

Most popular reasons for disputes over DIY:

1. Color scheme disagreements 2. Didn?t want to do DIY but was forced into it 3. Thought it looked easy but finding it?s actually more difficult 4. Not completing projects 5. Not having enough time to complete the projects 6. Living with the mess 7. Extra stress 8. Extra costs 9. Lack of knowledge 10. Differences in opinion
