Simple Hangover Cures and Remedies!

Jul 26, 2008
One of the serious problems with 'so called' hangover cures is that they often encourage people to drink far more than they should. However, the hangover remedies market is large, you only have took in your local drugstore to see how many there are. You see hangover cures need to address the problem caused by a combination of the toxic by-product of the alcohol itself, dehydration, and Vitamin A, B and C depletion brought about by the chemical action of alcohol on your system.

As most people who drink will attest: some drinks give you worse hangovers than others and this is caused by impurity of the drink itself. How bad your hangover is will also depend on the concentration levels of these impurities which also help determine how quickly you will become drunk. Colored spirits like Cognac and Whisky have more impurities than clear drinks like Gin and Vodka for example as these drinks have been through a filtration process.

If we were all to be honest though, if we didn't drink too much, hangover cures would not be necessary. This is often the case when we drink quickly or perhaps on an empty stomach, but at the end of the day, no one makes us do this.

It is well known that if you drink slowly, the body is able to process the alcohol and other toxins before they get to a level that gets us drunk. But because very few people adhere to a few simple drinking rules, the world is full of hangover cures.

The ideas that come up range from the quite sensible to the absolutely ludicrous, but nevertheless it always makes for an interesting subject of conversation. Still, finding the best cure for a hangover is still the 'holy grail' to many drinkers.

Left unchecked, it doesn't matter how much you drink, alcohol will gradually dehydrate the body and this dehydration can lead to the hangover headache the next day. Knowing this, it should be really easy to avoid a hangover by just ensuring your body is re-hydrated before you go to sleep, but how many of us actually do this.

One hangover cure is taking a couple of headache tablets and drinking a pint of cold mineral water before bed and then some orange juice in the morning as it replaces lost vitamin C. This is quite affective but like many things in life, the older you become as far as drinking is concerned, the less you actually able to drink in the first place and the less likely it is the hangover cures will work.

Eating bananas which contain large amounts of fructose, and potassium, pass as a credible hangover cure because these are two things the body loses when you drink. Fortunately, bananas contain a natural antacid to help with the sick feeling, and because they are high in magnesium they can help relax those pounding blood vessels that cause the famous hangover headache.

Some proclaim that the ultimate hangover cure is the 'Bloody Mary' which is simply vodka and orange juice with a few other ingredients but many people cannot face alcohol with a hangover. Learning to say 'thanks but no thanks' could save you years of unnecessary suffering and frustration looking for a hangover cure that works every time!
