Take Strokes off of Your Golf Score

Jul 26, 2008
For many golfers at every level of experience with the game, from the amateur to the professional playing for championships on the weekends worldwide, the drive to drop another stroke or two from their score is a never ending pursuit of long practice hours, driving on the range, and practice rounds spent refining the swing or practicing with one or two specific clubs. For the golfer who wants some practical advice, there are a few things that one can do to shave a few strokes from their golf score.

The first piece advice that anyone can give you is to try to develop a good sense of rhythm in accordance to your swing and golf game. There are plenty of golfers who get themselves into a bad rhythm which influences bad habits, simply because they rush themselves through the course. The truth is by taking your time and developing a steady swing it can save you on those poorly hit shots, thus saving you a stroke or two.

Another recommendation is to switch to a putter that fits with your tempo. Golf players frequently select a putter that is either too heavy or not heavy enough for their putting stroke which can lead to poor control of power. As a result, the putt may go offline or too short or long. Many golfers have discovered that using a belly putter, with a shaft that is long enough to jab the player in the stomach, is another technique for balancing the weight of the golf club and regulating the putting stroke more efficiently.

A third tip you can use to reduce your golf score is to play with the proper tees. Many starting golfers see better results from the use of a tee that sets the ball higher off of the ground. This can help the golfer who needs that extra height to practice hitting the ball cleanly and without the threat of grounding the club into the turf.

A fourth tip that can knock a shot or two off of your golf game is to take the time to scout your course before starting a round. Even a quick look at a course overview map can help identify potential holes of difficulty and help you formulate a strategy that can potentially help you avoid hazards and shoot a lower score.

The last piece of advice that can be considered in shaving some strokes off your game is to relax when you are out there, enjoy the game and the golf course when you are out there. Many golfers tend to play with a competitive mind set making them play poorly. Tons of golfers will tell you that having a clear head and positive thinking, can help you more with your golf game than any other piece of advice out there.
