You As America's 1948 Berlin Chocolate Bomber: 7 Tips to Greatness

Jul 31, 2008
We have written articles about how Berlin stood for all that separated idealogies, hearts and minds. The fact that Obama is there right now talking on television saying what we all have have said, we are all one. This so speaks to America's role as leader of civilization up to now. The Berlin Wall is now mostly gone. But in October 1961 just after and because of John Kennedy's Ich Bin Ein Berliner speech, I soon stood by that place. And I felt that as now in 1961 I as a Canadian stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers looking over at Russian soldiers.

We were as brothers, they were the Evil Empire. Canuck in Wonderland, an amusement among the soldiers. When in Berlin, I suggest you also stay like a helpful puppy the duration, it calms, allows relaxed talk. From Iowa, you say? Such corn! Amazingly in October 1961 it was still possible to pass by through the Russian soldiers at Check Point Charlie in a tour bus to a day tour of East Berlin, which we did, my first wife (what went wrong there?) and myself. So to negotiate through Checkpoint Charlie required the drivers be exchanged.

Berlin required that and so we did then receive an all in one soldier interpreter guide protector with a machine gun and no smiles helper along for the day in never sunny East Berlin. So I offer in this series seven tips that our beloved 1948 Berlin chocolate bomber for kids hero pilot did employ:

1. Look after Job One.
2. Look around. Notice the flowers and the kids.
3. Look again. Anything else need fixing?
4. Look deep. How could I make any difference?
5. Discuss or communicate your plan to your others.
6. See the large picture and begin to show you believe.
7. Make it happen. If you see it should, make it happen.

And you don't get rich, or you too much a bambi to keep it, so what some kids and their families love you. And so the poorer yet at the end of the day you feel good. And that is what great nations are built on. Look around you. How you chocolate bomb your dear ones, even your enemies (it will drive them nuts) will determine the course you set each morning. Go for it, ace. The runway is clear for chocolate bomber you, and the kids are eagerly scanning the skies for you. This was a venture into Orwell and double speak. You might imagine to be 22 and feel so alive, you have placed yourself into the devil's pit.

You thank your own personal God you are on the side of mighty America. All will be well. But step carefully, the Mongolian ponies are nearby, watch the line. You would imagine correctly that I was thoroughly engrossed for the duration of that exciting, eventful long day. Only when you wave your puny little Canadian passport, as I did, and have the golden man with the machine gun point it at you do you fully understand what this is all about, and how deep the divide and how vast the chasm. You smile and imply yes.

The man with the machine gun obviously is not our friendly welcome to Berlin committe comrade. He is the first Mongol soldier you have ever seen in your life. And you immediately hope the last. He swings his sten or bren gun gun at you. It is impressive, has holes in the side barrels, although you stop craning your neck as your bide gasps what are you doing stop! And so if you have my delicate stomach you back off, as your tummy anyway has become wildly quesy following too much excitement. And so the day began.

If you study into the eys of your fearful foes, you see in the light in his eyes. You soon realize he means this, and he would enjoy making his gun dance his Mongolian bullets all through obviously must be Yankee spy me. His smirk showed me all the information I needed to know. Very clearly. When you do not speak the language, it is vital to read the body language of the locals, so as not to miss any useful information. Such as stop or die. Show respect.

If your name is Genghis and you are now in the Russian army, they had a place for you on the very most western outpost of the Soviet Empire, plunk right at Brandenburg Gate. Your simple duty will be to handle your gun and glare at them at Brandenberg all the sweet day long. Every day. Forever. Well, mercifully that part we changed. I having no machine gun prior experience was transfixed. The man with the machine gun at Brandenberg - and next day at Check Point Charlie, that we were in a great will of culture and civilization.

Mongol culture. Our civilization. My heart was on the west side of that empty soulless space. It is to them to leave and then go party, drink vodka, make love to the pony. Mongol job one is to help them understand when you stare: You are entirely in my power, and this will last as long as can I hold the moment. So my personal suggestion to all this in a retro active way would be make sure you have emptied your bladder in West Berlin before undertaking this far journey to the Other Side. Not good washrooms when needed.

If Genghis was there, you sense that he Khan. Khan will do as he likes, not you. So we suggest we stay loyal to our great personal American antiques people and study what they came to see. They had read the books of knowledge. And there has been little new news on that.
