How to Get an Awesome Night's Sleep

Aug 1, 2008
The amount of sleep that you get can have a huge impact upon the quality of life that you have. If you are tired of being tired, there are ways that you can get the sleep that you need without taking medication. By trying some of these tips, you may find that you will fall asleep faster, stay asleep, and sleep more soundly, so that you get the sleep that your body needs to work more efficiently. What are some things that you can do to get the good night's sleep that you need?

Check your mattress. This cannot be said enough. You spend at least 1/3 of your day on a mattress trying to rest and sleep. If your mattress is worn out or is not comfortable, then the sleep that you are trying to get will be difficult to achieve. If you toss and turn trying to find a comfortable position, then it may be time to get a new mattress. Shop around and find a mattress that is comfortable for you and your significant other, so that you both can get the sleep that you need to live your life.

Make sure your room is comfortable. This includes temperature, light, and noise control. If your room is too warm or too cool, then it will be difficult to sleep soundly. Leave the television off before bed. The television can actually stimulate the brain and cause it to be very difficult to get to sleep. Having the room as dark as possible with closed drapes and dim clocks are very important to quality sleep. Too much light can disrupt your body's natural sleep rhythms and cause you to not get to sleep.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bed. These are both stimulants that will stimulate the body and keep you from going to sleep and staying asleep. Even if you seem to fall asleep faster after you drink an alcoholic drink, you may waken and not be able to fall back asleep. By steering clear of alcohol or caffeine from the afternoon on, you can decrease the sleep problems associated with these two ingredients.

Establish a bedtime routine and go to sleep at the same time every night. Whether your bedtime routine consists of a warm and aromatic bath or time spent reading, whatever you can do to begin the process of going to sleep is something that you will want to continue doing on a routine basis. By following your sleep routine and going to sleep and awakening at the same time every day, you can help to set a rhythm in your body that will ensure that you get the sleep that you need.

By considering these above tips, you can make your time sleeping more useful for you, your body, and your mind. This can have a huge impact upon your energy level, your mood, and how you relate to other people. By making simple changes in your life, you can get to sleep faster and stay asleep, so that you will get the rest that you want and need.
