Weight Loss - Learn What's Making You Overweight

For millions of men and women worldwide, their weight is on their mind all the time. Every time they go to the fridge, the grocery store or when they're eating out. If you're one of these people then this article might point you in the right direction as to why you're at a weight that you're not comfortable with. Whether it's your food choices, your emotional state or you don't know what a proper portion size is, you can make changes that will lower your weight and increase your lifespan.

Portion size, and knowing exactly how much your eating is important to know if you want to lose weight. Just guessing how many calories your meal is, or not reading how many servings a particular product is, is not going to help you. If a food your eating is so many calories for 100 grams then you need to weight how much you need to eat so you know exactly how many calories you're meal is going to be.

Most people will just grab a handful of something out of a packet, and this can create a meal or a sandwich that has a few hundred more calories than you should be eating. Do this a couple of times a day, and by the end of the month you could be eating an extra weeks worth of food. Counting exactly how many calories you're eating will be the best start to you losing some weight.

Exercise is an important part of any weight loss program. If you lose any weight by cutting down on the calories that you eat you'll put the weight back on as soon as you start eating normally again. You need to exercise to burn off the calories rather than starve your body of them. A healthy diet with exercise is by far the best way to lose weight successfully.

Because different exercises burn calories at a different rate you need to count the calories that your exercise program burns. To lose weight in a healthy manor you need to burn more calories than you eat, so counting how many calories you burn is as important as counting how many you're eating.

You won't need to start burning thousands of calories every day from the start of your program. At first you just need to work up to a good exercise program. As long as you're burning more than you were before you started your new health regime you'll be making progress.

If you're eating because of your emotions then you need to sort your emotional problems out as well. Your new healthy diet and exercise program will cheer you up and give you a goal if you're depressed or bored. In extreme cases counselling might be the answer, but if you really want to lose weight then this will be a big benefit to you.

When you lose weight you'll not only look and feel better, but you'll prolong your life as well so it will benefit you in more ways than one.
