Potty Training For Your Little One

Aug 7, 2008
So that is why before embarking upon the plan just ask yourself these questions. Is the time comparatively stress free in the family? You have to observe keenly the family situation at that time. Are there less activities. No major change in the near future? Job stress is low? It is very important to accomplish this task without grumbling. So in case you have some projects on line officially or relatives are visiting then this may not be the best time for it. But if everything is in order than this is the right time.

Is your child ready? In earlier days a child was forced to get potty trained at the age of one. Thank God those days are over. A child naturally gets interested in this at the age of two. But every child is different so it is for the parents to decide what is the right time. When a chld is ready for training you will see the signs yourself. When a child asks for big kid wear. When their diaper remains dry for two hours. When the bowel movement becomes predictable. When they start informing you as to when they are having the urge to go. They don't feel comfortable in diapers any more. When they can pull their pants up and down themselves. When you see all these things its time to make a move.

Ready? Take your child for shopping and let him pick up potty chair of his choice. Let them decorate it with stickers and all so they feel it belongs to them. At first just let them sit whenever they want. They may like to read while sitting on the pot. sometimes they may like to use it with the diaper on. This makes them comfortable in that position. Make "potty time a routine. You can choose a set time for the purpose. It does not matter whether he does it or not. In case they show the desire at other times rush them to the potty and on successful completion reward them.

You should be patient in case of accident. The child should be rewarded for success and not punished for failure. When your child does "poo-poo" in the diaper let him take it to the potty. This will help him learn where the "poo-poo" goes. After some weeks it may be time to do away with the diapers. Make it a big affair by letting the child throw them away so that he or she feels that they are now grown up. You must celebrate the occasions and even taking pictures is a good idea.

If the child wants to wear them at night then buy special pull ups or night time trainers. These are more like underwears and the child will not feel he has done it at night. You may not even call them diapers. Simply night trainers. It is very normal for a child to take longer in night time training.

The process is time taking but an inevitable part of growing up. There is a difference of time in getting trained in different children. Just do not worry about it and do not let people pass remarks on that. Always remember it is equally tough for the child as it is for you.

The growth of the children is so fast and unless some difficulties come on the way there won't be any children walking down the aisle to graduate high school wearing diapers! So there is no need to be anxious. Potty traing will be done in course of time.
