How To Elude Hyperglycemia Through A Diabetic Diet

Maintaining a normal sugar level for diabetics is a very important part of their lives. They must make sure that the level of their blood sugar remains steady and within their intended range by consistently testing their blood. But, if a diabetic chooses not to monitor the foods he eats through his diabetic diet, he can end up with a very high blood sugar level.

If diabetics maintain a sugar level that is high for a very long time, this can result in them acquiring a condition that is called hyperglycemia. If left untreated, this can lead to some very serious and detrimental health problems. So, it is extremely important to understand the causes that make your blood sugar levels rise in order to avoid these factors.

The meaning of hyperglycemia is simply a person who eats way too much sugar which causes their sugar levels to build up too high within their blood. This occurs when diabetics stray from their diabetic diet and eat the wrong foods. The sugar builds up differently in diabetics depending on which type of diabetes you have. Type 1 diabetics can not produce any insulin that the body needs so it can process the sugar. Type 2 diabetics can not produce enough insulin to handle the large amounts of sugar.

Sugar is processed by our bodies in a straightforward fashion. The sugar enters our bodies from the foods that we eat. Once the sugar is inside our bodies, the pancreas starts producing the insulin needed which helps carry the sugar into the cells. Once inside the cells, it is turned into energy which is used by our bodies.

This sugar-to-energy process happens in everyone's body, except in diabetics it has a slight twist. Their bodies either do not create enough insulin or create none at all, and thus the sugar starts building up in their blood stream. If too much sugar starts building up in their blood stream, they can get hyperglycemia.

Letting this excess sugar build up over a long stretch of time is very dangerous because it will damage your major organs that you need to live. It will start off by harming your blood vessels and then will work its way to damaging your heart vessel, eyes, nerves, and kidneys.

Many diabetics don't worry about hyperglycemia because they can not see the effects at the moment. This is because it is a condition that affects people later in life. Diabetics will only see the damaging consequences when they are older as it does not appear in teens and children .

Hyperglycemia is a serious condition that diabetics should start to consider when they are maintaining a diabetic diet. Straying from a diabetic diet and eating the wrong foods can cause some very health serious problems that deal with their heart, kidneys, nerves, and eyes. Although children and teens can not get this, diabetics need to start monitoring what they eat so they do not get it when they are older.
