Las Vegas Attractions -- Breaking Free From Casinos

Aug 11, 2008
It's easy to understand why most people associate casinos as the only Las Vegas attractions worth visiting. However, you'd be selling yourself short if you only visited the casinos on your next trip to Las Vegas. Beyond the blackjack tables and poker machines there's a whole city bursting with things to do in Las Vegas whether you're a traveling party of 1, 2, or 100.

Madame Tussauds Las Vegas

Madame Tussauds is a wax model museum that originated in London over 150 years ago. It has long been a London institution and is quickly spreading across the world. There are three Madame Tussauds in America with a fourth opening in Hollywood -- home of the celebrity and perfect Madame Tussauds location.

Madame Tussauds prides itself on being an interactive museum. True to its claim, all of the exhibits are fully interactive and a lot of fun. The Las Vegas Madame Tussauds museum is located in the heart of "the strip", Venetian Resort, Hotel and Casino and Las Vegas Boulevard. There are things to do in Las Vegas Madame Tussauds that will entertain everyone. One of the most popular things to do in Las Vegas (in general, and in Madame Tussauds) is to get hitched! In Madame Tussauds you can don a wedding gown (or suit!) and marry the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood -- George Clooney. Just before you tie the knot why not have your bachelor or bachelorette party with Hef and the Playboy Bunnies.

Blood Pumping Fun

While you're still on the Strip, make your way to one of the more famous Las Vegas attractions, the Stratosphere Tower for the adrenalin rush of your life. Newly refurbished, the thrill rides on the top of the observation deck will have you screaming. The only problem is that no one will hear you because you'll be some 900 feet in the air! Amongst the stomach turners are the Big Shot. The Big Shot subjects passengers to a massive 4 Gs of force -- that's more than an astronaut feels during take off. The X-Scream is certainly extreme. Strapped into an escape-proof seat, the high tech teeter totter lifts the carriage up and then speeds toward the end of the track at speeds of up to 30 mph. It comes to a sudden stop right at the end of the track that is 27 feet out from the building's structure, meaning that there is absolutely nothing between you and 900 feet to the ground. It you can open your eyes for just a second you'll get a great view of the famous Las Vegas attractions on the Strip below,

Las Vegas Helicopter Tours

Once you've acclimatized to the altitude of the Stratosphere Tower you may as well keep climbing higher. There are a few great Las Vegas tours that incorporate Las Vegas helicopter tours. These tours provide you with a birds-eye view of the best Las Vegas attractions in the city center and beyond. When choosing between Las Vegas helicopter tours, look for one that will take you over the Strip, abuzz with activity below, and then further out towards the Grand Canyon. Your helicopter flight should take you right over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the spectacular Bowl of Fire.

As the sun goes down, Las Vegas really lights up. The casinos, the many fountains, even the neon street lights make the city look like a Christmas tree. Either book a special helicopter tour, or time your day trip right at sunset to see the Strip like you've never seen it before.
