Preventative medicine for some people means using home remedies and herbal medicine to keep them healthy and free of disease and illness. Ten of the most commonly used and best healing herbs for this purpose are:

The medical profession is exploring the possibility of using this herb with colon cancer and Alzheimer's patients. Clinical trials have shown that when turmeric is taken along with quercetin, an agent found in onions, apples and cabbage, precancerous colon polyps have shrunk.

3. Rosemary. This helps to reduce the amount of carcinogens, or cancer causing agents present in fried or grilled meats when you marinate the meat in it before it is cooked. When mixed with water and allowed to stand for four or five days, it is a home remedy for gout when you rub the liquid on the affected parts of the body. Rosemary has the reputation of being able to improve the memory. It is safe to use in cooking, but if you are prone to epileptic seizures, you should not use this herb.

However, if you already have gall bladder problems, you should avoid this herb because it increases the amount of bile released from the gall bladder.
