Snoring Mouthpiece - Introduce Improved Sleep to The Bedroom

Aug 11, 2008
There is a device that has been developed primarily by dentists that is elegant in its simplicity, yet extraordinary in usefulness as it relates to winning the battle of the bedroom: a snoring mouthpiece. Fitted to the upper and lower arch (teeth), the effect of this snoring mouthpiece is to pull the mandible (lower jaw) forward so as to reduce snoring. When we stop snoring, everyone in the bedroom gets a better night's sleep. Let's talk about the importance of sleep.

We cannot control our health and our lives without quality sleep. We feel better about ourselves and about the world around us. We have energy, we are at peace, we are not fatigued.

Sleep scientist tell us that there are some eighty disorders that get in the way of sleep. The irony is that snoring is at the top of the list although people who snore rarely admit that it bothers them. They deny they have a problem but will admit it's a problem for their spouse. The snorer thinks that their partner is the person who is most affected by their snoring. The sad thing is they don't recognize the harmful effects of snoring on the snorer.Snoring arouses the snorer from getting into deep sleep all night long. Snoring acts to arouse everyone in the bedroom from deep sleep and this includes the snorer him/herself. We'll find out a little later why a snoring mouthpiece may provide relief.

No matter what the reason for not sleeping well, (snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, not getting to bed at a reasonable hour), poor quality sleep always results in a negative impact on our quality of life.

Daytime fatigue listlessness, is the most common complaint from poor sleepers. When they are not physically active, for example, sitting at their desk, reading in an easy chair, driving, they have trouble staying awake. This can be particularly lethal if they are driving. Forty-percent of American adults say that they're so sleepy during the day that it interferes with their daily activities. With snoring leading the list of deterrents to proper sleep, an effective snoring mouthpiece seems not only logical but mandatory.

Remember the movie "Grumpy Old Men"? Why are old men (and women) grumpy? They're in a bad mood too! They're irritable and grumpy because of poor sleep not because life's ups and downs have taken a toll on them. An oral appliance, otherwise known as a snoring mouthpiece may offer a solution.

What happens when we snore?

Snoring is a noise produced when the airway (passage for air at the back of the throat) collapses and gets smaller as we fall asleep. When you fall asleep, soft tissues in the back of the throat lose muscle tone and collapse. This makes the airway smaller.. In order to inhale and exhale during the breathing process, air must be under more pressure since the opening is smaller (like a pressure wash on your hose). The breath stream which is now under pressure passes over the relaxed tissues of the throat and sets these floppy tissues into vibration. The sleeping person may be unaware of it but the noise produced by snoring arouses everyone in the bedroom from deep sleep, into lighter sleep and this is not good. Medical science has worked hard for years to come up with snoring solutions everything from complicated surgeries to sprays. They have not been very successful so far. The idea behind a snoring mouthpiece is that it adjusts the position of soft tissues in the throat and prevents them from totally collapsing. The snoring mouthpiece pulls the lower jaw forward and opens up the airway making it less likely to collapse. The snoring mouthpiece appears to be a very promising technology to stop snoring.
