How Much Memory Is Enough?

Aug 13, 2008
Depending on what you use your computer for, and how often you use it would be a way to answer this question. If you seldom use your computer then chances are that you would be ok with 256mb or 512 mb. Some people only use their computers to check their email accounts.

With technology growing as it is these days, more and more people are becoming dependent on computers for a wide array of tasks. Many people use computers for online gaming which requires a bit more memory so that the graphics are displayed properly. Most of the online games with high graphics require more memory so that the computer does not freeze. So in this case the more memory you have the better.

More and more people are opting to go to school online as this is a way to go to school at home and the time you go to school online doesn't matter. As busy as most people are with daily lives, going to school online is a workable option that most people are interested in. The school files are large and small, so the more memory you have the better. Of course you can also burn your school files to a disc and that way delete the files to free up more space.

Most computers ship with the minimum amount of memory necessary to allow the operating system to run smoothly. With the memory upgrades available, you can increase your ram fifty percent or more, depending on the available memory slots in your computer. With today's newer office applications and the graphics intensive games, it is necessary to have more memory so that with two applications open and running, the less chance you have of your computer freezing or acting strangely.

Typically the operating system manufacturer is the one that sets the minimum amount of memory required to run the basic operating system itself and not any additional applications or programs. This is why it is recommended to upgrade the memory as the minimum is simply not enough to run more than the operating system. Therefore you will help prevent frustration from computer crashes or freezing.

In order to prevent this problem install the maximum memory for your computer make and model, as recommended by a computer specialist. With the advances in technology almost daily, it is necessary to have a smooth running computer that can handle having multiple applications open. Online gamings are high graphics programs that require more memory to display the graphics properly. If you are looking to run multiple programs, play games online and other applications, it is best to have more memory.

There are many types of online games available. If you are looking to play solitaire or something simple, you won't need much memory for these types of games. However for games that contains high graphics such as role playing games, then you will need more memory for this type of online gaming. It is better to have more than not enough.
