How To Receive On Site Payments

Aug 13, 2008
To be able to receive on site payments is relatively easy and painless. In fact there is a free way as well as some low cost methods. In order to be in business on the internet you must be able to receive payments for your products on line. Most of us don't have a bottomless pit of money to throw around, so we need to look for cost effective, affordable and reliable methods.

We're going to look at:

Where to get free reliable and safe credit card processor.

How to place the payment button into the web page.

The free payment processor is PayPal. When I say it is free I mean that it is free to join and use their system. There is a small fee for each sale you make. You will need to check this out for yourself. Now go to PayPal.com and open a free account. You will be asked for credit card details and you will need to verify your identity. PayPal is a very secure system and very safe way to receive payments.

Before you begin to get your payment button from PayPal you will need to know the url of your download page as you will need this to start up your payment link. PayPal sends your customer to this url after payment has been completed.

After opening an account and verifying it you will now be able to set up your payment buttons. Log into your PayPal Account and click on "merchant Tools" You now have a choice of "Shopping Cart", "Buy Now Buttons" and "Subscriptions and recurring Payments"

You would choose the shopping cart if your site had a number of products available. The customer can pick and choose as you would in a super market. After choosing the items wanted the customer finalizes their sale by going to checkout and paying for the items in the cart.

If your page is just selling one item and it is a one-time sale you would choose the buy now button. Having your page focus on just one item can be an advantage to selling. When the customer clicks on the buy now button they are taken directly to PayPal to complete the purchase.

As is the case with buy now button, the subscription and recurring payments button is for just one item. Payments continue to be made at intervals specified by you. These can be weekly, monthly, yearly or any period you specify. This payment system also allows for a trial period and then the payments at the specified intervals.

When you have chosen which system to use and have filled in all the details, PayPal produces a script code you can install into your sales page, where you want the button to appear.

In Dreamweaver or any HTML editor, go to where you want the button to appear and create a table. Make sure the cursor is in the table and center it. Now while the cursor is in the center of the table switch to code. You should now see the cursor flashing in the code. This is inside the table you created. While your cursor is flashing here, click on edit at the top of the screen and choose paste from the drop down options. You have now inserted the code and the button will appear where you wanted it to.

Now go to browser view and check how it will look on line.

You have now successfully inserted a payment button into your site.
