What Sort of Contact Lenses People Use

Aug 14, 2008
Today I want to explain you about the difference between many sort of contact lenses.

Hard contact lenses are made of hard plastic material and come as either non-gas permeable or gas permeable. They provide clear vision and last a long time (5 to 10 years) but are harder to adjust to. Hard contact lenses require a longer adjustment period. When a patient switches from eyeglasses to contact lenses, his or her eyes must get used to wearing the lens. Hard contact lenses are hard contact lenses prolonged use cataract surgery of problems. These tiny collagen or dangerous.

Hard contact lenses now on market may be broadly classified into two groups. Those classified in one group are hitherto known hard contact lenses prepared from methyl methacrylate (MMA) as their principal material, which have no oxygen permeability. Hard contact lenses are sturdy and require nothing special for this step. Once you are satisfied that no residue from the hard contact lens cleaner remains on the lens, put it back in its special lens case and proceed to fill it with conditioning solution specifically made for hard contact lenses. Hard contact lenses can last for a great duration of time which can range from 5 to 10 years but users find them difficult to adjust. Although users face difficulty in placing them in the eyes and encounter problems while removing them as well, hard lenses are known to rectify the majority of vision problems.

Eyes with keratoconus (a disease in which the cornea develops a cone-like shape) usually require an RGP lens. People who had to give up soft lenses because they developed an allergic condition called giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC for short) can often go back to contact lens wear by switching to RGP lenses. Eye make-up can be worn but should be applied carefully. Don't use lash lengthening mascara. Eyes need protection from many environmental assaults (including bacteria or other contaminants), ultraviolet light, and foreign objects ranging from flying sparks in a chemistry lab to an errant racquetball on the court. In January 1989 the agency sent 50,000 letters to eye-care practitioners nationwide to warn them of this problem.

Wearers of Bausch Lomb Sofenses are advised to boil them for 15 minutes each night in salt water. Table salt is not recommended because of its iodine content, nor is tap water because of a variety of impurities. Wearing contact lenses should be painless. There should be not even the slightest feeling that there is something in or on the eye. Wearing contacts requires compliance with specific instructions concerning how many hours they can be worn and how they must be cleaned, handled, and stored. Not adhering to instructions puts the wearer at risk for eye injury and infection.

Rigid lenses are a very good option as well, but take some getting used to. Many parents get concerned about this adaptation time, and don't want to consider rigid lenses, but they provide great vision, are cheaper, and healthy. Rigid gas permeable lenses, or hard contact lenses, are more rigid than soft contact lenses and therefore more durable. Unlike older versions of hard contact lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses are made with silicone polymers, allowing oxygen to circulate to the cornea of the eye. Rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses provide clear, comfortable vision with relatively few ocular health risks and are a standard management option for correcting nearsightedness. While RGP contact lenses are used to correct myopic refractive error, they may also slow the progression of myopia.
