How Inkjet Cartridges and Printers Work

Aug 15, 2008
There are many different reasons that you may need to utilize an inkjet printer and a set of ink cartridges. Wouldn't it be nice to know exactly how this hardware works so that you can understand potential issues and how to prevent them from occurring? If you agree, then read on.

Inkjet printers were introduced in the late 1980s and have become an extremely popular and cost-effective way to satisfy consumers' printing needs. The technical explanation of what makes a printer an inkjet printer is: one that puts very small drops of ink onto copy paper. These tiny dots make up text or images.

The droplets of ink are extremely tiny and are actually smaller than the average diameter of a strand of hair on your head. These dots can be different colors or can be comprised of different colored ink combined in order to create a specific color. This is what helps inkjet printers to give photo-quality images.

There are many different parts of the inkjet printer. The print head is the equipment that uses various nozzles to spray your paper with ink droplets. Inkjet cartridges are small plastic cartridges that are filled with ink. These cartridges come in different color combinations which depend solely upon the inkjet printer that you use.

The print head stepper motor is the piece of hardware that actually moves the print head and inkjet cartridges across your paper.

The paper feed assembly is the equipment that works together to feed a sheet of paper through the printer's inner workings, allowing the paper to be sprayed with ink droplets. The inkjet printer's hardware works together with the power supply, interface port, and control circuitry to efficiently operate the printer.

The paper and ink that you use with your inkjet printer greatly influences the quality print that you will get out of your printer.

The paper that you use with your inkjet printer can make or break the quality that you see. Paper that is specifically produced for inkjet printers helps to minimize ink absorption, leading to a crisper, cleaner image.

On the other hand, inkjet ink cartridges are manufactured specifically for a particular brand and model of printer. You must simply find the inkjet cartridges that are made for your printer brand and model, and you will be ready to print.

Since you will most likely be in the position to use an inkjet printer at some point in your life, you might as well understand how it works! By using this information, you will now be able to print better, higher quality images.
