Six Tips To Improve Your Chances Of Winning The Lottery

Aug 20, 2008
Most people like to have a gamble. Although winning is great it is the thrill of the possibility that gets a lot of people taking bets on sports games and so on. If you are one of these people than perhaps you should consider playing the lottery. Lotteries are great because they offer the real possibility of winning large sums of money for a small fee.

For the most part winning on the lottery is a simple game of chance and if you are to win big then you are relying on that huge slice of luck. However this article looks at some of the tactics that you can implement to help to reduce those odds just a little bit. There is no magic formula here as these tips are simply based upon common sense and logic.

1. Decide up on a set of numbers and then stick to them. So many people will change the numbers if they do not see any success with them, but the chances of this strategy working is highly unlikely. There is no such thing as an unlucky number as every number in the lottery draw has an equal chance of being drawn. I'm sure you have heard the stories of those people who change the numbers they had used for years, only for them to come up shortly after they changed.

If you work up on the basis of probability, your chosen numbers will at some point be chosen.

2. Avoid choosing numbers that have appeared recently. Many participants seem to believe that those numbers that have appeared in the recent past are good numbers and that they are likely to come up again. This makes no sense as the probability is equal to any other number during that particular draw.

3. Try avoiding any form of tipping service. These may be found in newspapers or magazines but these services are not based on any form of inside knowledge and even if they did come up, can you imagine the number of people who followed the tip and then consider what the actual share of the winnings might be.

4. When choosing your lottery numbers, you should avoid using the dates of relatives and friends birthdays. So many people do this as they feel that these numbers represent some form of luck. This is complete folly and if you only choose significant dates then your chances of winning are actually greatly reduced, as it is unlikely that a number above 31 will not be drawn.

5. In recent years lottery scratch cards have become very popular. They are cool because for a $2 card you can instantly win prizes of $20 and $50. Unfortunately, the effect that these cards have is similar to fruit machines. People feel that they are on a winning streak and so feel compelled to play again. The rule here is to make sure that you play the scratch cards once or twice and then leave it at that.

6. The final tip centers on lottery syndicates. This is perhaps the best advice that can be offered when it comes to winning the lottery. A syndicate is basically a group of people who purchase the lottery tickets together and then agree to equally distribute the winnings. Although you would have to share a large payout, the collective means that you will have a better chance of winning. In fact research demonstrates that around 25 percent of lottery winners are syndicates.
