Barber Scissors: How To Care For Them

Aug 23, 2008
The word barber usually brings to mind the definition of one who cuts the hair of men. Barbers are the ones who specialize in the grooming of men in terms of shaving and cutting the hair of men. Of course, every one who specializes in something needs to have the tools to do it. The barbers all-important tool is his scissors.

Barber scissors is perhaps the main tool that brings success to a barber shop, as well as the skill with which a barber maneuvers his scissors. Because the scissors is the tool that allows the barber to show skill, it is important to take care of it.

With the proper care, scissors will last you a long time. Otherwise, you may have to buy a new pair every now and then. Regularly buying barbers scissors can be expensive, and could mean less profits.

However, if you care for your scissors properly, you should not have to worry. Another more important reason why you should care for your scissors is the possible damage or problem (and it can be a host of problems) that might occur if you do not regularly check up on your scissors.

PROBLEMS OF UNSHARPENED SCISSORS

One problem could be that while you are cutting the hair of your customer, his hair might catch on the scissors or the scissors might pull it if it is not sharp enough anymore. Another is that the hair might be bent instead of cut off when you try to cut it. The shears might also feel blunt or rough while you are cutting, which could be uncomfortable and distracting to you. These problems might bring about customer dissatisfaction, which, of course, is usually bad for business.

SOLUTIONS FOR BLUNTED SCISSORS

At the very basic, you should check your scissors regularly for any sign of bluntness, and then take it to a specialist for sharpening. Do not attempt to sharpen it yourself if you do not have enough experience or know-how. Try a sharpening experiment and you might just end up damaging your scissors beyond repair.

Cleanliness is next to godliness, and this applies to everything, including scissors. So clean your scissors every few hours or so by using a soft, dry cloth. Use oil to clean the corners that you cannot reach with the cloth. The oil will ensure than any hair bits or dust will be taken out of the scissors.

Scissors is an essential part of any hair cutting business. Like with any other tool, it is not indestructible. That is why you need to clean and check it every now and then. This will ensure that your scissors will last a long time. And you know what that means when your tools last a long time - it means less costs on purchasing new tools.

Then again, if you are keen on replacing your scissors kit, just look up the Internet. There you will surely find very good deals that will not drain your budget or make you pull your hair out.
