10 Great Reasons to visit Llandudno, North Wales

Llandudno is a great place to visit in North Wales with lots of attractions to keep you entertained whatever your age. The town is perfectly situated in the shadow of the Great Orme with its beautiful Victorian Promenade and pier, the longest in Wales. There's plenty of things to do whatever the weather from walking in ornamental gardens to north Wales biggest theatre.

Journey to the top of Llandudno's Great Orme on the Great Orme Tramway. The trams take you from the base station located close to the town centre to the summit over 600 feet above. The Great Orme Tramway was built over 100 years ago and splits the journey into two at the Half Way Station. Before journeying to the summit stop off at the Great Orme Copper Mines which are over 4000 years old.

Journey over 4000 years into Llandudno's past with a trip to the Great Orme Copper Mines. The mines are a short walk from the tramways Half Way Station or for the less energetic car parking is available onsite. The Great Orme Copper Mine was discovered over 20 years ago and have since been opened up as a major attraction. Visitors can take the underground tour and learn how Llandudno's first inhabitants mined copper from the rocks.

As the tram reaches the summit you can enjoy views of Anglesey and the North Wales coastline. The Great Orme Vistor Centre is close to the tram station and offers a fascinating history of the Great Orme and its natural inhabitants. Refreshments are available from the restaurant and bar and the shop offers a wide variety of souveniers.

From the summit you can take the Great Orme cable car back down towards the town. The cable car is the longest cable car ride in Britain. As you ride back towards the town you get terrific views of the town so have your camera at the ready. As you start the lower descent you'll get to see Ski Llandudno another of Llandudno's great attractions as well as take in some great views of Happy Valley.

For the fit one of Llandudno's best acitivities is its dry ski slope Ski Llandudno. At over 200 metres the slope is the longest in North Wales and is suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. Take a ride on the toboggan run as it races through the twists and turns towards the bottom. The toboggan is suitable for mot ages although young children should be accompanied by an adult. Afterwards enjoy a relaxing drink and meal in the Alpine Ski Lodge.

Overlooking Llandudno Pier is Happy Valley, a popular destination to relax and chill out for a while.The upper valley consists of an ornamental garden whilst the lower valley is a large field where the kids can burn off some energy. Some fantastic views of Llandudno Pier can be seen from Happy Valley. A cafe is located within the valley for drinks and refreshments.

The Victorian Pier at Llandudno is the longest in Wales and fifth longest in the United Kingdom. The pier was built over 100 years ago and extends out from the shore for over 2295ft. On the way you pass fun rides for the children and small stalls as well as the men fishing before reaching the Pier head. Take your camera for the pier has some great views of Llandudno Bay and Great Orme.

The North Theatre is the largest theatre and conference centre in North Wales. The theatre was recently renamed Venue Cymru and was given a major extension adding a restaurant and meeting facilities at the time. The theatre is a regular stopping point for bands and the best shows.

A trip to Llandudno would not be complete without a walk along the beautiful Victorian promenade. The promenade is lined with top quality hotels from the northern pier end almost all the way to the Little Orme in the distance. The promenade is wide enough to walk along without fear of dodging the crowds and of course leads onto Llandudno's north shore beach which is another great place for the family to relax.

At the southern end of Llandudno's promenade is Bodafon Farm Park and North Wales Bird Trust. The farm is open to the public allowing you to get up close and personal with the animals. It's a great place for the kids and after the farm animals take a look around the recently opened North Wales Bird sanctuary with many different species including both birds of prey and more tropical varieties.

Whether you're looking for a top quality hotel or budget bed and breakfast Llandudno has it all. As North Wales largest tourist destination there is a wide selection of choice available. The best hotels tend to be on the promenade with the guest houses and bed and breakfasts further back. Sea views are especially sought after but don't forget some of the best smaller establishments are a little further back.
