How to Get Your Ex Back- A Proven Method

Aug 25, 2008
When your partner up and decides to call it quits, it can really impact your life. Chances are that if you're reading this, I probably don't have to tell you that. I know that things can seem like they're falling apart, but rest assured that with a little work you CAN pull your life back together and even get your ex back!

My most important bit of advice that I can give you is to NOT let your sadness consume you and render you helpless. You can't not feel the heartbreak, but don't let it cripple you. There's nothing wrong with a good cry, but don't let the depression keep you from getting up and making the conscious choice to do what it takes to get your ex back.

Once you've found yourself the motivation and determination to rise up and make the choice to make your life better and get your ex back, you've won half the battle. Changing your attitude is the first step, and once you have found that will to succeed, everything else is just taking it one step at a time.

I know there's a chance that this comes a little late, but it's important to stay away from your ex for a while after you've just broken up. Pressuring him/her to get back together, or even just being around all the time could push your ex further away and ruin your chances of getting back together.

Even if that bridge has already been crossed, it's okay. Likely, too much harm hasn't been done, and if you back off now and give the two of you some space, you'll be able to salvage things if you play your cards right. Don't just spend your time away from your ex idle though, you have some thinking and self-work to do.

I'd say there's a 95% chance that if your partner broke up with you, the problem is SOMETHING to do with you. People don't just end happy relationships that fulfill their needs, and usually the catalyst that makes the person decide to end it is some sort of behavior or fault of the partner. It may not even be a BIG thing, but there's something not quite right with your half of the relationship.

I can't figure out what the source of your problems is for you, but you really do need to if you're going to have a chance of getting your ex back. It could be anything or any number of things, from simple frustrating behaviors to more serious relationship issues. Whatever it is, you need to accept that you need to change it, and really DO change it. Stopping the source of your problems is the only way to make them stop happening.

Once you've really busted into gear and gotten a lot of this worked out, it's usually taken long enough that enough time has passed to where it's acceptable to contact your ex again. Remember, this is a light reestablishment of communication, not a targeted attempt to get back together. A phone call or an email is good, and usually it shouldn't be a whole lot more than just seeing how he/she's doing.

If all went well with the first contact, it's safe to keep going, slowly but surely. Don't rush things, just keep opening those doors by building up contact bit by bit. Piece by piece, things'll start to come back together a bit, until the two of you are on friendly enough terms again that it's ok to be spending time together. Use this time to let your ex see for him/herself how much work you're doing on yourself.

Once it's gotten to a point where you're spending a fair amount of time together again, make sure that the things you're doing together are fun things you've always enjoyed together and that will bring back memories of how good you were together. With the new and improved you, they'll probably be even better times than the memories, and your ex should begin to wonder if maybe it was a mistake to leave you.

Chances are good that you two will get back together, and if that happens I couldn't be more happy for you. Congratulations, but remember that it's not just a downhill coast from here. You have to make sure the changes you made to yourself to get your ex back have to stay made, and if you go back to how it was before it'll probably end like it did before...and there are only so many times your ex will be willing to risk the same heartache.

Remember always that this method is designed to be almost entirely passive, and focuses on addressing the root problems of the relationship (or at least the ones you can do something about) and stopping the trouble at its source. Let things work at your ex's pace, and it's really preferable that he/she sees the work you've done and that getting back together is his/her idea rather than yours. Never get too aggressive, or all you've been working for will be lost.
