Extraction Of Flooded Carpet Is A Hard Task Is Debatable

Aug 26, 2008
Carpet is likely the most regularly water damaged item in a home. Floods can occur from busted pipes, leaking household machines, backed up commodes, or torrential rains that cause rivers to runoff. The cause of a flood can make# a difference as to how to take care of a flood damaged rug. If the rug is flooded with pure water from shattered pipes or dripping appliances, the carpeting will be salvageable if it is dehydrated and washed quickly. On another note, carpets that are flooded by backed up toilets or flood waters which have combined with waste will possibly have to be replaced.

If the rug is flooded with clean water it needs to be dried out right away. Extra water should be withdrawn from the rug with a wet/dry vac. Then the carpet should be taken up from the flooring and the cushioning needs to be thrown out. Launder and dry the floor and move the carpet to a very ventilated area where it can be elevated to dry. Fans can be utilized to accelerate the drying activity. It is also advisable to have the rug doctored with a disinfecting solvent to prevent any troubles with mold and mildew. This will additionally stop the offensive odor which comes with mold and mildew. After the carpeting is dried and any other troubles stemming from the flooding have been fixed, have a new pad installed. Then the rug can also be reinstated.

When the carpeting has been dirtied with septic flood water it is most advisable to hire a specialized cleaning company to tear it out and throw it away. When the floors, baseboards, furnishings and anything else that has been infected with the flood water has been cleaned and sanitized a new carpet and pad can be put in. This is the safest way to avert any risks to your family's wellbeing due to germs in the water that flooded the carpet.

If there is no decision but to try and reconstruct the soiled rug, remove it from the home and lay it on a cement surface that slants downward and away from the abode such as a driveway. Treat the carpet with antiseptics and dispose of the padding. Wash and sanitize the flooring and walls in the home that have been water damaged. Take a hose with acceptable water pressure and wash off the rug starting at the top and working downward. Turn the rug and hose off the back also. Get a disinfecting solvent similar to ammonia or pine cleaners and put it on to the rug beginning from the top and working down and then wash it. Place the carpeting face up again and repeat the cleaning instructions and rinse completely.

As much water as possible should be extracted from the wet carpeting with a wet/dry vacuum and the carpeting should be treated to avert fungus and mildew. The wet carpet should be raised up and dried out using fans to hurry the activity up. It is important that it dries as rapidly as possible. Put in a new pad and replace the renovated carpet.
