What can you do if your guitar is found lying in a pool of water in your flooded home? Is it possible to mend the extensive damage to the instrument that has given so much pleasure over the years? Many folks could think their guitar is ruined and should be disposed of. This is often times not the case. If you get the inundated instrument to a water damage restoration pro rapidly enough, it may possibly be fixed. This could be an expensive process so it is important to figure out how valuable the guitar is before you determine to mend it rather than get a new one. Locate a certified and insured skilled guitar restoration specialist. Check out their references to be certain that the water damage restoration professional is respected.

A water damaged guitar can experience a warped neck, mutilated coating, neck coating peeling, oxidization of the string section, screws and bridgeplate handles and glue coming undone. There are some measures that are essential to be done to restore a water damaged guitar. Initially, take off the string section, pegs, and the bridge. Take away any additional components. Then the ruined glaze has to be separated. This can be done using wet/dry rubbing using a sander of a fairly gritty grit to take the lacquer off. The neck and body need to be cleansed with rubbing alcohol to better disperse any remaining moisture. When the veneer is totally taken off, it should be hung up to aerate and dry. This could demand a long time.

When the guitar is drying out, the hardware, pegs, and screws should have the corrosion withdrawn with a soft brass brush and light oil. Wipe the parts dry and shine with a lint free cloth. Set these parts off to the side until the rest of the refurbishment has been done.

If the neck and fingerboard of the guitar was bowed and twisted, the neck must be made straight if the guitar is to be recouped. This is accomplished by taking off the frets and fastening the neck really firmly to create a straight keyboard. Then the neck has to be evenly made hot until the glue below the fingerboard becomes flexible. With the neck clamped in its new position, the paste below the keyboard is readjusted. After having been held tightly for several days, the neck and front of the guitar must be sheared and redesigned as well as smoothed to remove shedding finish. Once the keyboard is set correctly right, it should be sanded and oiled.

The neck and head must be sanded and coated with linseed oil and mineral spirits again and again. After this is over, to complete the neck and head, new frets should be put in. Then the interminable activity of sanding and finishing the body commences. This can demand many coats to achieve a nice veneer. When the finish is finished the components, bridgework, and pegs must be exchanged. The guitar can then be strung. When there is pressing on the neck of the guitar from the strings, the clavier and frets must be adjusted as well as additional parts of the hardware to fine tune the activity of the strings section. When this is accomplished, the water damaged guitar refurbishment has been done.
