Photo Mold Remediation Can Be Toxic Without The Proper Precautions

Saturate any photographs in water for a day or more to help them become unstuck. If this is not conceivable then put a wax product in between the photographs or clumps of photographs, seal them in plastic bags, and put them on ice immediately.

There are a few things you can do to remedy the mold. The basic step you have to take is to dry out the photographs as quickly as possible. Let the pictures dry out in a room with fans circulating air or put the pictures in two plastic bags and freeze them until you can deal with the issue. This will prevent more mold damage. Be sure you handle mold damaged photos with care using protective handwear and a face cover with a carbon filter. After the photos have been completely dried place them outside, making sure they are not anywhere nearby additional pictures or things that mold spores could attach to. Use a really cushioned brush to gently remove the dried mold from the surface of the picture. If there is any residue left on the photos use a cotton swab dabbed in isopropyl alcohol and rub the photos with it. This could remove and maybe kill any of the remaining mold development. This method may render your pictures salvageable even after mold growth has started.
