The Pursuit of Happiness

Aug 28, 2008
In the second sentence of the U.S. Declaration of Independence it is stated that we have the unalienable right to pursue happiness. Yet, it is hard for many people who have no idea how to accomplish this. Some people out there actually think they are owed happiness, but nobody can guarantee that.

A lot of people think material possessions will make them happy: cars, houses, clothes. In the end, it just doesn't cut it. Think about how miserable wealthy people sometimes are. Cash doesn't make you happy, but people like Donald Trump may disagree. He's reported as saying, "The people who say money can't buy happiness don't know where to shop." Well, if making money makes you happy, go for it.

However, when your basic needs are taken care of, increased wealth and things bring little sustainable satisfaction. Giving and doing for other people leads to real fulfillment. First of all, you don't think about yourself anymore, as your attention is directed elsewhere.

Even the poorest of the poor have something to give. It doesn't cost you anything to give a smile or a kind word of encouragement to someone who is feeling low, but to the recipient it could mean everything.

If you don't know who to donate to, you really should look into the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Making wishes come true for children with life threatening medical conditions is what this marvelous organization is focused on. There is nothing better than bringing hope and joy to a child in need.

Examples of child wishes range from meeting a celebrity to making a special trip to Disneyland. A long-desired well-decorated bedroom, the latest game box, or computers are some of the materialistic wishes. The only restriction is the hopes, dreams, and wishes of a child.

There are a lot of ways to aid this organization. People that are lucky enough to be financially secure can assist in making dreams come true by donating. Someone who is short on money may donate time by volunteering to help a child. With the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, others donate automobiles to be sold. Make travel wishes of children come true by donating unused airline miles through many of the airlines used by the foundation. Hold a bake-sale or yard-sale and donate all you make to the Make-A-Wish Foundation - that's a great help!

There is an infinite amount of ways you can help, no matter what your situation may be. Taking the first step in helping someone else can elevate your own life in a positive direction. If this particular organization is not for you then look for other ways to make a contribution that suits your particular needs. Money can not buy the rewards that are the most satisfying.

This is the absolute best way to pursue happiness; I guarantee it!
