Peanut Butter Fudge-These Calories Are Good for You!

Aug 28, 2008
We are all told to stay away from candy, sugar, and any food with a high fat content if we want to loose weight and live a healthier life. However, some of these once taboo foods are now turning out to be good for you. For example, anyone watching what they eat was told to stay away from chocolate. Today however, nutritionists encourage the consumption of a small amount of dark chocolate every day. The same is true for many nuts and peanut butter. So do not feel bad about munching on a little peanut butter fudge. You will actually benefit from enjoying this sweet treat as long as you eat it in moderation.

Fats

Peanut butter fudge, is full of good fat. Most of the fat in the peanut butter is monounsaturated. This type of fat actually helps your cholesterol by lowering your LDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is considered bad cholesterol. In addition, peanut butter fudge has polyunsaturated fats. These types of fats help increase the level of HDL cholesterol. HDL is the good cholesterol in your body. You want your HDL levels to be fairly high. So consuming peanut butter fudge can help reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Fiber

The peanut butter in peanut butter fudge has a high amount of dietary fiber. This fiber helps control cholesterol and sugar levels. In addition fiber has been shown to promote regularity and decrease the risk of colo-rectal cancer.

Proteins & Minerals

We all know proteins provide the building blocks for the cells in our bodies. Peanut butter fudge has a lot of protein as well as Vitamin E and Vitamin B3. Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant which can help reduce the risk of cancer. Vitamin B3 helps the body repair cell damage.

The iron found in peanut butter fudge promotes the health of red blood cells. Calcium is another mineral available in peanut butter. Calcium helps strengthen bones and prevent muscle spasms.

Other Benefits

The peanut butter in peanut butter fudge contains Resveratrol which is thought to contribute to the anti-aging process. Resveratrol also helps the body fight off bacteria, virii and fungi.

There is also a substance called p-coumaric acid that helps combat cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

By eating a few pieces of peanut butter containing foods weekly, you might also help prevent gallstones. In addition, the niacin contained in peanut butter can help ward off or delay the onset of Alzheimer's Diease. Peanut butter is also high in antioxidants which helps destroy free radicals in the body and promote healthy cellular growth.

So despite what we have been taught all these years, peanut butter just might have some health benefits. The fats it contains are beneficial and the minerals and other ingredients work to keep the body young and strong. However you choose to consume your peanut butter, be it a peanut butter cookie or peanut butter fudge, know that, with moderation, you are doing your body good!
