The Symptoms And Causes Of Panic Attack

A panic attack is something that can happen to anyone; at any place and any point of time. It is defined as a sudden feeling of intense fear that prompts severe physical reactions in ones body. It is seen in many people, that they begin to feel that they are having a heart attack.

Panic attacks are short periods, usually 10 minutes in durations, in which a person feels an intense sense of fear and anxiety. Some panic attacks have durations of only 1 to 5 minutes whereas some may go on for up to 2 hours with cyclic peaks and troughs. They occur suddenly and the sufferer mostly cannot identify the reason of occurrence.

Many others try and ignore the signs and symptoms by not realizing that one is going through a panic attack. It fells like the heart suddenly begins to race, the face of the suffer flushes and they may experience shortness of breath. The person may also suffer from dizziness and thus become out of his own control.

Some people also tend to feel that they are dying. Normally, more than men, women are prone to these panic attacks. Panic attacks are also known as panic disorders. Panic attack usually arises due to mental or nervous breakdown.

Symptoms of panic attack
Panic attacks are momentary attacks they usually last for about half an hour to the maximum. The attack achieves its peak within 10 minutes. Panic attacks usually have many types of variations. The patient might feel fatigued or very weak after suffering an attack.

The symptom includes rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath and hyperventilation, chills, hot flashes, nausea, abdominal cramping, chest pain, headache, dizziness, faintness, tightness in your throat, trouble swallowing and a sense of impending death. People after suffering from a panic attack, are often affected by other mental health conditions, including depression, agoraphobia and social phobia.

Causes of panic attack
The main reason of panic attacks is not quite very sure. The factors like heredity, stress and certain biochemical issue do play a role in panic attacks. Many doctors and researchers believe that panic attacks are mainly hereditary.

If a person's heart rate and breathing speeds up as the patient's body readies itself for a situation that is life-threatening. Most of the similar reactions normally during an active panic attack. There is nothing that produces stress in reality, but something triggers the patient's body's alarm system that forces him to undergo a panic attack.
