Great New Way To Sell: Ebay

Aug 30, 2008
Unless you have been under a big rock for a while, you have heard of Ebay. Ebay is a site that allows people to become members and you can buy and sell things via the internet. It has become a household name with millions of members all over the world. If you haven't learned how to sell on ebay, below is some helpful information for any Ebay newbie.

Pierre Omidyar created AuctionWeb in 1995. They decided on the name Ebay in 1997. It is a site that lets you put virtually anything up for sale, as long as it's legal. Some of the most popular items include, antiques, clothing, and collectibles. Weird stuff does pop up on Ebay, so read the listings carefully!

Registering is the way to start. You fill out your personal information. To become verified, you have to provide a valid credit card number. You can also set a Paypal account with a credit card. Your card will only be charged if there is a sales transaction.

Rules are enforced, so make sure to check out Ebay's policies, both on behavior and how to sell on Ebay. You should know Ebay makes its money on fees. There is a small insertion fee for listings, another fee for adding special features to the listings(like buy it now or adding a reserve), and a final value fee, which is determined by the selling price of the item.

Once you have items to sell, you need to create your listing. You should have a title that will come up in keyword searches. For example, if you are selling a child's t-shirt, you should list the size, color, and any logos it has on it. Also include any manufacturer information, such as a warranty when you make the listing. Take photos from different angles and add them to the listing. This is essential to selling on ebay! You also can set a reserve, or minimum price, but you will incur a fee for that. Set a time limit and finalize your listing!

There are two main ways to sell on ebay. How you sell on Ebay is up to you!You can do the listing as an auction or as a Buy It Now item. The auctions are set up so that tehy have a time limit. Members can set maximum bids so that if someone trumps their original bid, the system updates their bid to the next highest amount. When the time limit runs out,the bid that whens is notified so that they can pay you, depending on which options you set for payment. Once you get paid, ship the item!

One of the greatest tools Ebay has is the feedback system. This system allows sellers to leave feedback on buyers and for buyers to leave feedback on sellers. This way, if you plan on selling to someone who has good feedback, you know they will most likely follow through on the sale. Conversely, if you follow through properly, they can leave good feedback for you. Watch out for sellers and buyers with bad feedback!

Once you play around with the site, you will find yourself becoming more at ease with Ebay. There are tutorials and FAQs to help you find your way. It can be a great way to make extra money, or to spend it!
