The Basics Of Mold Damage And Your Home

Aug 30, 2008
Everywhere you look you will find some sign of mold. They are found in showers, under sinks, in floorboards, and outside underneath the trees. They will even begin to form in food if it sits too long.
Some mold is used in medicine, such as penicillin. Most molds you see are slimy, fuzzy, and just plain ugly.

There are several ways to help keep molds from growing. Always clean your showers with a good, strong cleaner. You need to do this at least once a day, but if you don't have time like most people, try to do it once or twice a week. If you or your children love to swim a lot, try to have them hang their suits out on a line because wet clothes can start to smell musty. If left out for too long, mold will appear underneath the sink. Sinks are a much bigger problem to take care of because of the pipes. They could creak or break, leaving moisture in your cabinet frame where mold can go unchecked and cause wood to rot over time. You will end up having to replace your cabinets. This could happen to any wood floors, walls and roofs.

If you have an older vacuum, the bags are one of the best breeding grounds for mold, especially if the bags got wet. That is why vacuum makers and companies have developed new vacuums that have no bags. Your freezer is in another place that mold can show up in. If you have an old freezer that you are not using or you decide that you don't need it and want to sell it, make sure you clean it well.

Also, leave the door to the fridge cracked open for ventilation. If you don't, mold could grow, and you would lose the money on that sale. Your refrigerator is another place for mold to grow. All food will gather mold because of bad or old food or moisture from hot items or drinks.

Problems with mold can be either a small thing or a very big and costly problem. It can be a very good thing in the medical field because of discoveries and for research of different types of mold. If you and your family do anything and everything to keep yourselves and your home clean, it would help keep it free of molds. Sometimes it can't be helped. It can sometimes be out of your hands because of normal moisture levels. Just remember, mold can be your enemy or your friend.
