Bad debt is a debt which makes you poorer, so that cut in expenses is better than paying interest for your expenses. Your credit report contains information about you such as your account history, credit limits, and punctuality of payments so checking of your credit report can help you spot identity theft. It can possibly show whether unauthorized inquiries and applications for credit have been made, or if accounts have been opened on your name.

You can protect yourself from identity theft by regularly checking your credit History for accuracy and suspicious activity. With whom you have done business that will also shown by credit history which is properly registered by Banks and other agencies. Not all consumer reporting companies collect the same information about you, it is valuable to see what each one is reporting and confirm that the information is accurate. After you submit a request, the consumer reporting companies may seek further information from you by post. If you receive an e-mail or phone call requesting information, don't respond, and report any such activity. Be sure to check your report for accuracy. It is your right to request that the information provider and the reporting agency can make corrections to inaccurate information about you. In case you find any error, contact both the consumer reporting company and the information provider immediately.

Items that commonly show up on your credit file can include:

Loans (personal and business)
Store Credit Cards
Credit cards
Mobile phone bills
Home loans and mortgages

The file itself contains main information about your personal interaction with credit which includes number of times you have applied for a loan, credit card or mortgage. Your credit file will also contain information about overdue amount (if you have any) whether or not you have personal, business or commercial loan assigned to your name (for instance if you have a business and a business credit card). Whatever information contained in your credit report it remains, the contents will remain for different lengths of time. There are different things you can do to improve your credit score which provide and give yourself a greater possibility of appearing much more creditworthy throughout the agencies.

Before applying for credit cards or loans try to find process for getting loans or credit cards also inquire about documents needed, it will give good sense to Bank or agency because they will conceive you are applying for the first time.

Don't apply for higher risk credit because it is not favorable by creditors; for example it is reported that lenders don't like seeing Store Credit Cards because store credit cards give sense that customer has taken up interest free deals or ranks of high risk credit. 'Outstanding debts 'should be paid if you find any on your credit file and ask the company to modify your credit file (this will reflect as paid on your credit report). The above can help to improve your credit rating, and will help keep it in good stead. The trick is to manage your credit file proactively; once there is an issue, it is harder to fix than instead of simply avoiding in the first place.
