Fat Free Foods Will Not Help With Fat Loss

They sound great, those fat-free foods. But they're not, plain and simple. First off, they definitely have fat in them! The claim that they're free of fat is a lie and that's why eating these foods can mysteriously make you gain weight!

The first thing to tackle here is what fat really is. Most people think that the word fat means body fat and that's not necessarily true. Yes, that's one meaning of fat because body fat are just stores of fat within your body that result from lack of physical activity and, usually, unhealthy foods. The other meaning of fat are the fats found naturally in foods, key word naturally. There are types of fats found in foods that can lead to weight gain but not all fats contribute to that problem.

When food companies advertise their "fat-free" foods, they're hoping that you'll automatically think that it means you will lose your body fat and then just buy like crazy. Well, not so at all. Fat-free foods cannot make you lose your body fat. The only way to lose body fat is by exercising and eating healthy and fat-free, low-fat foods are not healthy for you.

For a second, let's just say that those fat-free or low-fat foods do have little fat in them (which they don't). Do you realize how much OTHER stuff they have in them? First off, to compensate for taste, usually, there's tons of sugar or salt or other flavorings, sometimes artificial. Or there's tons of preservatives, which are very harmful to your body.

Now, eating these foods doesn't mean that you will have no fat and eating foods full of fat also doesn't mean that you will have tons of body fat. The two are not the same. Actually, fats are an essential part of your nutritional diet. They've got lots of calories, which are energy sources for your body, and they're necessary building blocks within your body. So eating fat doesn't automatically mean you will be overweight. The key here is to remember what you need to do to prevent weight gain.

Exercising is so important to maintaining a healthy body weight. When you exercise, you are burning up those excess stores of body fat and allowing your body to function and burn fat more effectively by building up your muscles. During the day, after your workouts, your body is burning fat all by itself without you even knowing it! It's burning the incoming fat from the foods you eat throughout the day.

But, if you don't exercise and stay active, yes, eating foods full of fat will make you gain weight, not because they are fats but because you aren't using them. Your body will automatically and naturally store these extra fats and calories so you can use them later, and hopefully you will use them later! So you need to realize that having these fats is not the problem but the problem is not using them.

So if you don't exercise, eating fat free foods won't change anything for you. Instead, they will do more harm than good. Like I said, the food companies fill these foods with tons of sugar, artificial flavorings and preservatives. To begin with, anything artificial or preservatives is just bad for you, no matter what kind of spin people put on it. Second, excess sugar can lead to diabetes, which is directly related to obesity. Not only that but high sugar intake can make you sluggish, which really won't help if you're trying to jump-start an exercise routine.

When you're out grocery shopping, always check the nutritional label because excess sugar is just as bad as eating fried greasy foods. Make sure the foods you purchase aren't sugar-filled.

The other thing that you can do is to exercise! I cannot stress this enough. It is so important to exercise regularly to maintain your physical strength, your metabolism and your overall health. So the best way to lose weight is to eat healthy, fresh produce and high quality meats and to exercise regularly. Anything that's marketed as a short-cut for weight loss should be seen as disastrous to your efforts to really lose weight.
