Ideas to Consider For Garage Design

Sep 3, 2008
Simply a way of getting in or getting out is not what a garage is all about. It is more than that - a garage is often an extension of a house/home.

The internet is flooded with garage design plans of all types including 1 car, 2 car, 3 car or 4 car garages. These plans are designed to accommodate one or two or three or four automobiles in your garage. A wide variety of styles and sizes will spoil you for choice.

Some of these designs will allow you to build deeper garages where you can store longer vehicles along with boats or trailers. These kinds of 2 car or above garage plans usually come with two/three/four smaller doors or with one large overhead door.

These double-car or triple car garages are usually detached and are equipped with a gable roof or a hip roof. The exterior may be constructed with brick or siding or a combination of both.

Some of the affordable detached designs on offer come with an additional fully equipped apartment or studio apartment or loft upstairs that will offer additional storage space when space becomes an issue.

These design plans are flexible, and accommodate adjustments, modifications, are affordable, allow different configurations, customization and also include professional building blueprints and construction materials list.

Because these plans are flexible they will allow you to add extra features like more workshop floor space, higher ceilings and extra-wide doors.

Recreational vehicles may be stored in a specific type of garage with high storage space called RV and boat garages. You need to adjust the garage accordingly if you are planning to keep motor homes, trailers or boats which are taller, longer and wider.

Often RV owners like to tow a boat or a run a bout vehicle behind their beloved RVs. To accommodate all these extra things RV garages come equipped with additional garage stalls which are attached to the garage usually.

The depth and height of a RV garage is minimized by these additional stalls and other architectural elements soften the imposing and bulky appearance of a RV garage which is oversized.

If you can't afford to build an enclosed garage, then a cheaper version of the same called carport may be the option for you. They won't take up much room, can double up as a storage space for garden supplies or as yard and also double up as a cozy shady place to enjoy the outdoors by cutting out the sun. But because it is open on three sides your car might get stolen. This is its biggest disadvantage.

These garages have overhead doors both at the back and in the front in order to accommodate huge objects like lawn mowers, facilitate air circulation (if there's workshop) or convenient movement of trailers or bringing objects in and out of the house with ease.
