Secrets To Dramatic Basic and Smoky Eyes

Sep 4, 2008
Applying eye shadow can be very tricky, not to mention when you get into the more technical stuff like smoky eyes. First though I will discuss the basics and then I will describe to you how to get the smoky eyed look!

For to start out I will just focus on the basic side of how to do eyeshadow. Then I will write and second article that will capture more of what to do in creating smoky eyes. These instructions should help you put this into practice within in five minutes.

Begin by wiping your eyelids with a damp brush and then add some face powder. This will help to keep your eyeshadow from melting. Next, grab three shades of the same color.

Choose a light color, dark color and a color somewhere in between the two. If this technique is not new to you then buy inexpensive eyeshadow to play with. Find some at Target or Walmart while you get these steps down.

Start out by applying the lightest shade on the whole lid. Apply with a gentle touch, don't press down to hard on your eye lids. Start applying from the brow to the lash line. Next apply the medium color.

The medium shade of the color you have chosen will bring out the color in your eyes! Apply the medium color from the lash line to just above the crease. Lastly the darkest color is going to be applied close to your lashes.

So when applying, take your time and do not rush. Many of times I stabbed my eyes by doing this technique too fast. When you become a pro, then you can do it as fast as you please.

I do this everyday! I love to use a touch of gold shadow on my brow bone to make my eyes look even brighter. You can also find this shadow at Target or Walmart. If I were you I would not spend too much money on this tool which I call a highlighter.

You can use powder(make sure it compliments your skin tone.) or a fat pencil. Some people really like to use the liquid highlighter and have had excellent success. I have not personally used it so I could not give you my personal opinion, but it is probably worth a try.

You might notice that your eye will get this creamy look from using liquid (this is what happens when I use liquid eye liner) . This really tends to make shadow application more difficult. So just beaware when trying different techniques and find what works best for you.For more information on that go tohttp://www.squidoo.com/beautytipsgalore

However,to counteract some these issues you can stay away from bright colors. Subtlety is what looks best all around. Subtlety means softer tones and colors. Softer tones and color will give you a more youthful look that is always flattering.

Lastly, the othe trick is not to layer on the eyeshdow too thick. If you layer on the eye shadow too much it will look caked on and tacky. I would say in my own experience that one layer of each color works the best. Enjoy and experiment and find what works best for you!
