What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is a painful inflammation of the joints that usually strikes the elderly, but can be acquired at any point in the human life cycle. What are the symptoms of arthritis?

Some common symptoms of arthritis include swelling and excruciating pain in the joints. This pain can often be severe enough to disrupt a the ability of the sufferer to function normally. Many victims of arthritis complain that the pain is often worse in the mornings. In addition to hot, painful swelling and stiffness, arthritis can also cause a general feeling of being unwell.

What causes arthritis?

Osteoarthritis is one of the oldest and most common diseases around and is often caused by general wear and tear of the cartilage between adjoining bones. Any human over 60 will have it to some degree, with a few experience extreme symptoms. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is thought to be largely genetic, so family history can be a factor in getting the disease.
