How To Kill Bamboo Plants

Sep 8, 2008
Asian culture is making a huge impact on our society, especially in terms of interior decorating. Bonsai trees have been popular for years and nowadays, bamboo plants are giving them a run for their money. People especially like having bamboo inside of their homes. However you need to realize that these plants require some very specialized care. That is mainly because bamboo is naturally an outside plant. To an extent it is wild. As such, you need to do all you can to copy its natural conditions.

First of all, you need to be careful about the way you plant the bamboo. First you need to prepare the soil. In addition to good dirt, you need to include some other substances. You should mix in some rocks - in fragments of course. Small pebbles are good too. Even clay can help the soil. Adding them to the dirt will keep the soil from getting too saturated and thereby drowning the bamboo. That done, you should actually embed the plant in its pot.

That brings us to watering. Keeping your bamboo watered correctly is extremely vital. This is mainly because you need to consider its natural conditions versus its current conditions. Soil dries out when it is inside. If your soil is too dry, the bamboo's leaves will start to curl. If you have watered the bamboo too much, its leaves will droop.

When taking care of indoor bamboo, considering its original climate is vital. Bamboo loves sunlight but it needs shade too. When positioning the plant in your home, make sure that it can get enough of both.

In addition to being watered, indoor bamboo needs to be fed properly too. Most experts and accomplished gardeners and growers advocate feeding your plants organic chicken manure. However, it should be done in small amounts.

Keeping an adequate amount of moisture in the bamboo is also important. This goes beyond just watering it properly. You should seriously consider misting the plant. You can do this with a spray bottle or a vaporizer.

Pesticides may be necessary to protect the plant from pests like insects, fungus, and microbes. They will cause spots to appear on the bamboo.

Bamboo requires specialized seasonal care. Basically, if you embed the plant inside during the winter months, you need to take precautions. In cold weather, the soil tends to pack in too tightly. Therefore, heavy protection is necessary.
