Can Fresh Water Aquarium Fish Eat Bread Crumbs

Sep 9, 2008
Fish kept in an aquarium are definitely the easiest pets you can keep. Take adequate measures to care for your fish after you have established the fish tank. There are things that should be done daily to care for fish and some things that need only be done weekly or bi-weekly. Note that there are not many things that you will have to do everyday for care of your fish tank. You will need to look at the fish every day to make sure they appear to be overall healthy and happy. Fish, suffer from stress as well and you would want to make sure the living environment does not cause any form of unnecessary stress that can threaten their health and well being.

Check the lights and the filters of the aquarium daily to see if they are working correctly and they are properly plugged. Make sure you feed your fish on a daily basis. Foods that you give your fish should not take more than two to five minutes for consumption. Anything more than that will sink to he bottom and become debris. Once every week, you will have to look at the pH and the temperature of the water. Make it a habit to make the necessary changes immediately. When you are buying your fish from your pet store, ask them what levels will be suitable. The conditions are different for each kind of fish.

Filter cleaning is extremely important. The aquarium filters will collect all the wastes that the fish produce by way of excretion. Without cleaning the filter repeatedly, they will not be able to remove the wastes because they will get clogged very soon. Another job that the filters do apart from removing the waste is to circulating oxygen into the task. With clogged filters, circulation will become slower. Due to this, the available oxygen in the tank can go down. If you do not correct this, your fish may die. Change the filter on the aquarium every two to three weeks depending on need. If the water becomes opaque and emanates an undesirable odor, it's time to change the filter. You may either clean your filter with ordinary water or change it but it depends on what kind of filter you are using.

When changing water in the aquarium, do it gradually. You have to be particular to detach lights and other equipments when you are cleaning your fish tank. Change only about one in three parts of the water of the fish tank on a weekly or biweekly basis. You also have to see that the temperature of the water is inside 2 degrees plus or minus from the water temperature in the aquarium.Tap water, if added, will need to be treated and arranged at a temperature near two degrees of the fish tank. Ask your pet store owner about the requirements of water for your fish. Short term treatment for the tap water could be for about half an hour, but you may sometimes need to treat the water for the whole night too.

Using a good quality scrubber, remove the alga formations that develop on the sides of your tank. While cleaning, do not agitate the fish. Move rocks and decorations to loosen any debris. Collect this waste when you are replacing the water using a siphon or a bucket. An important part of cleaning is to remove the withered leaves from the aquarium plants. For cleaning the outer area of the fish tank, just sponging the area with a squeegee soaked in tap water will do. Do not miss out on cleaning the lid and the cover of the tank. Plug all the devices again and check out your newly cleansed tank. This finishes your tank cleaning process so now is the time to sit back and savor its cleanliness.
