Four Common Mistakes to Avoid When Getting Your Ex Back

Sep 9, 2008
When you've just broken up with your ex, your entire system is suffering a great deal of emotional stress. Nature has wired our brains so that intense stress causes us to act first then think afterwards. Unfortunately, this doesn't work so well when we want to win back our ex.

Unless your expertise is managing break ups, your instincts are going to lead you in the wrong direction. The emotions of the moment will bring on bad judgement which will result in lousy decisions. Simple awareness of the common errors that people will make and keeping a clear head will start you off on the right foot.

1.) Threatening your ex is a strategy that isn't going to be effective anytime soon. The majority of people respond by getting angry and resentful. Getting someone to want you is all about attraction while threats are coercive and repugnant.

2.) Don't do any begging or pleading with her. This will only diminish your worth to her because it places you in a very weak position. There's nothing attractive about seeming pathetic and desperate.

Don't forget that maturity, confidence and strength are masculine qualities that the ladies like. Pleading is frequently shown in Hollywood as a very romantic and moving gesture. But in the real world, you'll just get contempt from her.

3.) Pouring a lot of attention on your ex just after you've broken up may seem the right thing to do when you are gripped by panic. However that's because a panic state makes you feel an extreme need to repair the problem immediately at any cost. To her, you'll come across as a little crazy and very desperate.

So it's best to lay off all of the late night calls or the text messages. And to allow the situation as well as yourself, some time for cooling off.

4.) Don't get resentful and angry with your girlfriends family and friends. It is only natural that they'll side with her and do some talking about you. Keeping the peace with them will make your attempts at getting her to come back much simpler.

Don't forget that half of the battle is avoiding all of the mistakes that will damage your odds at getting her back. You can do this by not permitting yourself to be overcome by anger, panic, or the other extreme emotions that will usually happen during a break up. Avoid any of the thoughts and situations that can arouse these destructive emotions and start working your plan to win your ex back.
