Do You Have Kidney Stones?

Sep 9, 2008
Kidney stones, also called renal calculi, are solid concretions (crystal aggregations) of dissolved minerals in urine; calculi typically form within the kidneys or bladder. The kidneys are intricate organs that have several biological roles. Your kidneys are important and you can not live without them. However, you can live with one kidney, but no kidneys equal death. Kidneys do serve a primary role to preserve the homeostatic balance of bodily fluids by filtering and secreting metabolites and minerals from the blood and excreting them, along with water, as urine. Are there any home remedies for kidney stones?

One study monitored 55 people with returning kidney stones who were given 500 milligrams of magnesium a day for up to 4 years. The study showed that 85% of these people remained kidney stone free compared with 41% of a group of people who did not receive magnesium supplements.

Calcium is good for your body and helps you maintain healthy bones and teeth, but too much calcium can actually cause kidney stones.
