Looking For The Right Love Handles Exercise?

Sep 10, 2008
Along with finding and performing the right love handles exercises you will also need to improve your dietary intake of calories if you intend on getting noticable results in a reasonable time frame. Although the exercises you use will help to tone and firm up the muscles in the mid section of the body it is the amount of calories that you consume that will insure that the fat is removed.

If you want to eliminate those love handles for good then you need to carry out between 2 and 5 abdominal exercises at least twice a week to firm and tone up the muscles in this area of your body. Along with training the muscles the exercises will improve the stomach's appearance and with even a small reduction in your calorie intake, the fat will soon begin to disappear from your waist.

As I've said in other articles, love handles exercises are any exercises that contribute to the reduction of the fat that has accumulated over the oblique muscles and are not specific exercises that focus on or engage the obliques. In other words, walking or jogging could also be called love handles exercises because they also would contribute to fat reduction in that area of our bodies. However, in this article we take a look at a few of the exercises that do focus and engage the obliques and are worth considering doing in order to rid yourself of those unwanted love handles and will contribute to a smaller waist.

1. The Basic Crunch Exercise - This one is specifically used to train the rectus abdominis muscle that runs from the breastbone down to the top of your pelvis. First off you'll want to lay on the floor with your feet apart about the same width as your hips with your feet flat on the floor and your knees bent. Now place your hands behind your head so that they cradle it. You can intertwine your fingers if you'd like but ensure your elbows are rounded inward slightly. Now just move your chin slightly towards your chest and as you do this pull in the muscles of your abdomen. When comfortable begin to slowly curl your head, neck and shoulders up from the floor and as you move into the final position exhale. Once you have reached a position you are comfortable with stay in it for several seconds before slowly lowering your head, neck and shoulders back down to the floor remembering to inhale as you do so.

2. The Twist Crunch Exercise - Along with improving the condition of the rectus abdominis muscle this one works on the two sets of muscles that wrap around the waist known as the internal and external obliques. Again lay on the floor as you would with the basic crunch exercise but when you begin to raise up your head, neck and shoulders you need to twist them towards the left. Again breathe out as you raise yourself up and then hold the position for a number of seconds before lowering yourself back down again and of course don't forget to breathe in. Now repeat this exercise again but this time you need to twist your head, neck and shoulders to the right. It is crucial when doing this particular love handles exercise that you simultaneously twist your neck, head and shoulders and not create momentum by swinging the elbows. It is the muscles that surround your stomach and waist that you are wanting to tone and firm up so you need to make sure that you concentrate on twisting your body from the middle.

Have you ever seen someone purposely suck their stomach muscles in to instantly become like an "after" picture? Here's a tip that you can use anytime, anywhere. Doing that actually is helpful. Now if you have ever done it before you should know that there are degrees to it. If you suck it in as far as you can, it can be very uncomfortable. And the longer you hold it there the more uncomfortable it becomes. But if you get in the habit of holding it in to a point where it is not all that uncomfortable, you'll actually be training those muscles and over time it will become increasingly more comfortable for you to hold that position. And you will not only look better and feel better, but your posture will improve. This can also work against you if you allow those muscles to be completely undisciplined and hang out as if your competing to have the largest beer belly in the neighborhood.

From now on begin to monitor your self talk. Everything you say to yourself is being recorded by your subconscious mind and is either working for you or against you. This is how your self image was created and it is continually being recreated everyday. If you are to be successful at achieving your desired physical condition, you will want your self talk on your side.

One of my favorite books is by James Allen called "As a Man Thinketh". Your thinking will determine your success so make sure you stay positive. Here's a quote from the book. "The body is the servant of the mind. It obeys the orders of the mind whether they be deliberate or automatic".
