Sold Your Home? Best Tips For Saving Money On Relocating Estimates

Sep 11, 2008
Well now that you've accepted that job offer that so happens to be a few states away, along with having to get your home on the market to sell, is when the whole thing suddenly hits you, that time of actually having to pack for the move has arrived and panic sets in. What are you going to do with all your stuff? There are several things you can do to simplify the process and reduce the amount of stress on yourself.

Prepare For Target Date

Prepping and selling a home is a big job. There is no secret to that fact. such as work schedules if you're changing employment, school schedules for your kids, housing considerations such as rent or lease terms, and even the weather A family goes through quite a bit of uncertainty, anxiety and stress and can take weeks to pass. Now with that said, at least when it comes to the actual move and packing I can offer a bit of advise and great tips that will help the process go a bit smoother and a bit less stressful.

Physical Activity

It doesn't matter if your moving to the next town of clear across the country, any kind of relocation is an expensive and time consuming event to go through. The best advice I can offer you is to stay focused and plan for your move extensively. It's important to keep up your health as it will take a lot of physical and emotional strength to keep from coming unglued with movers around your home. There are boxes that need to be moved and rearranged that help keep space organized.

Planning & Organization

You should really try and give yourself at the minimum two weeks to complete the move. I mean moving everything from one home to another, cleaning up your current home to show for selling, the actual move. Plan on hiring professional packers and movers to help save you energy for the unpacking process. It will take you time to unpack and organize your new place so don't beat yourself up if things are not arranged by the end of the first day.

Once you've worked out a timeframe for your move, now it's time to take inventory of your home. The most important part of this process is identifying what to keep, and what to get rid of before the move-there is no sense in moving items you don't plan on keeping long-term.

Look around

I always suggest that people should try this method; if you have something stored and you haven't used it in about six months then you probably can do without it and move it along to someone else. Obviously not including seasonal items like snow shovels or winter coats but try asking yourself three little questions:
1. What do I want to keep?
2. What items must I keep?
3. What can I part with and give to me sister or donate to good will?

Once you have done this simple yet effective procedure you will realize you have more stuff that you don't need. The clutter starts to clear itself. This is a great way to cut moving costs because not only are you not taking up space in moving trucks that you don't need but if you are using a moving pod and moving yourself, you will find that you have less to pack and can probably go with a smaller unit.
