Children's Jewelry For Teenage Girls

Sep 15, 2008
Teenage girls perhaps constitute the largest market segment when we consider children's jewelry. The smaller forms of children's jewelry like ear rings, rings, bracelets etc. form the chunk of products in this segment. The tastes, designs and patterns keep changing constantly in answer to the demands from these teenage girls. The buying pattern is also very healthy since the frequency of purchase from each individual is every month or in some cases even every week. Such is the fancy related to children's jewelry in the teenage segment. The vivid colors, absorbing patterns, wide range of prices to choose from, variety of materials from simple plastic to metals to precious or semi precious stones all wait in attendance for the discerning eyes of the enthusiastic shoppers.

Piercing of Ears

Piercing of ears is the forerunner to wearing ear rings. Some cultures see this as a proclamation of entry into adulthood, while in some other cultures piercing of ears is done as early as an year or two from the date of birth. While children's jewelry has its distinct cosmetic values and a large following, piercing of ears particularly in the case of young children should be undertaken with great care and concern. Let us examine some of the major factors.

1. Infection

Piercing of the ears will be best done by professionals. Use of aseptic techniques , gloves and sterilizing equipment are essential to ward off possibilities of an infection. Gold needles or hypo-allergenic needles in stainless steel are often recommended. Using alcohol to clean the piercing several times in a day can further protect the child from infection.

The child whose ears you are planning to get pierced should have had its DPT shots before the piercing is undertaken.

2. Children's jewelry for infants

You should never choose the dangling type of jewelry for infants since you run the risk of their playing with those and hurting themselves in the process. If you are using a stud ear ring for the infant, make sure they are secure in the ears and every chance of its falling out and eventually finding its way into the infant's mouth is effectively pre-empted.

3. Keloids

Keloids are unsightly growths, often large in size and correction becomes difficult with injured ear tissues. When you have a history of keloids in the family, it would be desirable to have your daughter's ears pierced after she becomes a teenager, or better still, leave them unpierced. A better approach can be to defer the ear piercing till your daughter reaches the teenage so that the decision to pierce the ears becomes more participative. In modern times, even children's jewelry manufacturers have acknowledged this changing approach and are producing ear rings which can be worn without the support of a hole in the ears.

While issues concerning beauty and appearance will be in the forefront for any woman, particularly young girls, matters of concern to the health of the individual cannot be skirted in preference to cosmetic values. We need to be healthy and beautiful.
