Brides-To-Be Increasingly Turn to Aesthetic Treatments for Looking Their Best on the Big Day

Sep 16, 2008
Brides want to look and feel their best on their special day, and they are more frequently turning to non-invasive services for themselves and members of their bridle party.

Increasingly, bridal shows are not only showcasing the latest invitations, cakes and favors but also spa packages and laser aesthetic treatment options that brides-to-be are making an integral part of their pre-wedding planning.

Once the bride chooses her wedding dress, hairstyle and shoes, she often has another concern to address: the appearance of her skin, which could range from cellulite woes to sagging skin to unwanted hair.

Not only is the bride looking at herself but as the median age of a bride continues to increase, she's looking at an older bridal party that may want a quick and easy enhancement, as well.

Some brides are making a night out of it in a collective makeover event, taking attendants to an evening of drinks, hors d'oeuvres and laser aesthetic treatments such as reducing the appearance of cellulite or evening out skin tones with skin rejuvenation therapy.

Mothers of the bride or groom can be included, as well. Skin rejuvenation therapy can offer an excellent answer to treating age spots, and skin-tightening treatments offer that little boost without major surgery or downtime.

Traditions are changing for weddings and those trends are being reflected at bridal shows, as well. Where it was once commonplace for brides to gift their attendants with matching jewelry or dyed heels, now gifts of services are becoming the norm, where brides will offer to pay for up-dos, facials or skin treatments. Some bridesmaids say a gift that boosts self-confidence and lasts longer than a pair of earrings worn once and discarded provides more meaning and can be a more thoughtful gesture.

On the other hand, bridesmaids that cringe at the thought of buying a dress in a style they don't like and will only wear once can be willing and even eager to pay for cosmetic procedures, especially if they are non-invasive.

In addition to skin appearance, many brides and those in the bridal party worry about unwanted hair. Shaving can become a chore, and no one wants red bumps on their legs or under their arms on their wedding day.

To understand how laser hair removal works, it is important to understand hair and how it grows. Human hairs are made up of three parts: the bulb at the base of the hair follicle (which produces hair), the shaft and the hair. The bulb and the shaft are embedded beneath the surface of the skin, therefore the hair is the only part visible to the naked eye. The hair growth cycle is comprised of three stages: telogen, catagen and anagen.

At any given time, approximately 30 percent of your hair is in its anagen growth stage, which is the only time the hair is susceptible to laser hair removal treatments. Each laser hair reduction session will permanently damage 30 percent of the hair follicles in the treatment area. Essentially, laser hair removal works by destroying the hair follicle.

The only way to permanently reduce the amount of unwanted hair is to damage the hair follicle to a point where is unable to produce hairs. The hairs that are destroyed with each treatment are destroyed permanently. While patient protocol is determined on a case-by-case basis, on average our center recommends a minimum of six treatments, spread about two months apart per treatment.

In addition to laser hair removal options, brides are looking to firm up problematic areas and reduce the appearance of cellulite so they can put their best foot forward on their wedding day through the honeymoon and beyond.

Noninvasive treatments like VelaShape can literally take inches off the waist, buttocks, thighs, upper arms and more in as little as four treatments and with no surgery or downtime. The treatment combines heat, massage and suction to literally shrink the size of your fat cells, providing a decreased circumference of the treatment area. VelaShape is also very effective on the lumps and bumps we see on our backside, thighs and belly - cellulite!

VelaShape is the first and only process approved by the FDA to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite and reduce thigh circumference. VelaShape is a clinically proven procedure that many Americans are choosing instead of surgical techniques. The noninvasive VelaShape device uses something called el's technology, invented by laser developer Syneron. It employs bi-polar RF waves and infrared energy to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of cellulite and cut down on localized fat deposits by literally shrinking your fat cells.

Improvements from VelaShape often are visible within as few as four office visits. It obtains results much more quickly than other techniques because it uses high-powered and safe forms of energy. Typically, with four to six treatments spaced one week apart, patients see thinner thighs and better skin texture. Some patients have even see results on other areas of the body including stomachs, love handles, hips and buttocks.

As these bridal party sessions become more popular, it's wise for the bride-to-be to plan ahead and book sessions early. Remember, treatments may be weekly and can be spread out over a month or two, so you'll want them booked well in advance of the wedding date.

Once you have the look you're seeking, you can go back to concentrating on the wedding itself and the joy of that special day.
