Stress Management: Taking It Personally

Sep 17, 2008
Many big companies are aware of this and have taken steps to ensure through employee assistance programs and wellness plans that the average employee gets to work under at least a low stress environment, but there is no company that can create a completely stress free environment.

That leaves the individual to look after themselves to ensure that they adopt the right stress management tools that re right for them, and the experts suggest that you can build up your stamina through regular exercise as part of any good stress management routine, but they also suggest that more passive endeavors like yoga an meditation are great ways to release the stress that might build up.

Of course there are the old standbys and exercise is one of the most regarded of these stress management techniques. However, there are other techniques beyond exercise that work with a good physical regiment to make sure that you build up the stamina that you'll need as a part of any successful stress management routine.

They suggest that eating a balanced diet is important and the eating several small meals a day as opposed to three big ones will reduce tension as well.

Remember that physical activity can also contribute to sound mental activity and that regular sleep cycles regulate the biological clock so that you can find yourself getting longer and more restful sleep that contributes to low stress as well.

The Catch 22 of course is that sleep can be hard for people who are suffering from stress although it is a necessary part of their stress management routine. Paradoxically, it is the very things that they are attempting to escape that keeps them awake.

Regular massages can also release the tension that is caused by regular physical and emotional demands as well. They also have the added benefit of forcing both employers and employees to step out of the workplace and take some time for themselves.

Another part of the best stress management routines is about you emotional state. Some of the most successful people report that they do their best when they feel both calm and engaged as well as focused and optimistic. Workers who report that they are able to stay positive in the face of negative situations at work state that they are able to better deal with the situations at hand.

Many experts believe that hope and all other positive attributes actually have a healing power and that when people talk of the healing power of laughter, they are actually saying that positive emotional states are therapeutic. Another way to put this is that optimists resist helplessness.

Another way that you can greatly reduce the stress that you feel is to take yourself out of the situation. Not taking things personally is a great stress management tool that's been used for years.
