The Best Way To Learn Strategies To Improve Your Test Scores Quickly

Sep 17, 2008
I can only imagine what you're thinking right at this point. That is, "it's not possibly to improve your test scores quickly!" That you need to struggle and study long, arduous hours, just to keep "average" grades right?

However just me pointing out to you that it is possible has piked your interest yes?

Keep paying attention as I give you some useful secrets to studying effectively and efficiently, rather than through sheer brute force of spending lots of time. Plenty of people have dealt with the same problems and found good solutions-- and not-so-good solutions, too. You can help yourself study far more effectively by taking advantage of their advice.

Uncover the success study blueprint. Finding others that are currently using one is your key to success. For example, you would not ask a chef how to build a house, or a volleyball coach to teach you chess.

The trick is to understand those who study in this way at the present time.

"How do I do that?" you ask

Formulating others success into your own plan for success.

A good starting point is to find out how your classmates work. Talk to the best among your classmates; find out just what they're doing to get the grades they do. Most will only give you vague answers about "working hard," but don't be deterred. Get the details of what they mean by that.

You: George, how do you make such high grades even in your most difficult classes?

George: I don't know. I just study hard and apply myself I guess.

You: You question what he had meant when he said that he had studied hard and applied himself.

George: Well ya know I spend a lot of time studying. Don't you?

You: Yeah I do, but I'm not getting the results I'd like to get. How many hours do you study in a typical week? You seem to study nowhere near as much as I do.

George: I guess I spend one hour per day three days a week Monday to Friday and maybe another hour on Saturday or Sunday.

You: When do you study?

George: I do my studying first thing after getting home. If I wait until after I eat, I'm too tired to concentrate. If I have something else to do after school, then I wait until about an hour after dinner, and in the meantime I go hang out with my friends so I can calm down first and concentrate better.

You: If you don't mind, can I ask where you study?

George: Funny you should ask, I used to study in my room, which is next to the den but with my parents watching TV in the next room I couldn't concentrate. Now I go down to the basement. It's quieter down there.

It's important that George doesn't feel like you are slamming him with too many questions. Be sure to check in with him to make sure that he is okay with participating. George needs to feel as though you are happy and grateful for his cooperation and help. He might not be aware of how much you appreciate his input, so you should clearly communicate your pleasure.

You: Now that you've made it as far as the desk, what's your next step?

George: I determine what I am going to accomplish in this session, then I start. I do all the assigned problems. If I have time left over, I'll try the odd numbered problems if the even ones were assigned. I stop doing problems when I "know" I can do this type of problem. It usually takes me three problems to get the hang of it. I do all my extra math problems that I don't hand in to the teacher in pen - which helps me see my mistakes when I review for quizzes and exams.

You: Thanks a lot George. I am going to try some of those things out tonight. By the way, I have found that using different coloured pens helps me visualize and remember things. You may want to try it out. If I pick up any other points that I think would help you, I'll let you know.

It's important to let other people know you're genuinely grateful when they've lent you their time. The best way to show gratitude, however, will differ from person to person. No matter how, though, you should let them know how much they appreciate them and make sure your gratitude is genuine, or else they may feel taken advantage of.

Your professors and teachers, parents, older siblings, or even your local librarians could serve as excellent resources as well. To find the best match, try to find a mentor that has already accomplished the same goals you've set for yourself.
