The flexible connectors, when properly installed, will provide an extensive life for the pipes with minimal service repair costs. There are certain do's and don'ts for the metal hose, which one should remember before installing and applying them.

Do's For Metal Hoses
The following are the do's for metal hose-

Use Of Pipe Guides And Hangers
One needs to use the pipe guide and hangers before the installation of flexible metal hose. There should be certain weight of pipe on the guides and hangers.

Removal Of Shipping Restraints
One needs to remove the shipping restraints of the metal hose. After the removal of the shipping bars, visual inspection should occur and a functionality test should be completed.

Anchoring Of Pipes
The pipes should be anchored at singular change of direction where flexible hose is used. This is mainly done to avoid the torsional stresses. The anchors should be used at the end of the hose, opposite from motion source.

Careful Measurement
One needs to do careful measurement in order to be certain that the connecting pipe is cut to exact length. The metal hose should be installed at the exact normal free length as supplied. The pipe should be shortened, if the metal hose is too long.

Lining Up Of Bolt Holes
One needs to make sure that before all the boltholes are in place before welding pipe flange in place. It is best to use the floating flanges on one of the connector end so that it can allow for bolt hole alignment in the field.

Don't For The Metal Hoses
Don't for the metal hose is as follows -

No Compression
The flexible connectors should not be compressed in order to make it fit. If the connector is installed under compression, then it can create stress for the hose, which will force the hose to loosen the braid pressure retainer. This will further reduce compressive movement and result in early failure of the hose.

No Stretching
The connector should not be stretched to fit the gap than the factory furnished length. If one stresses the connector to the maximum then there will be excessive residual stresses on fittings and braids, and will ultimately lead to rupture of the hose.

No Excess Weight
There should be no excess weight on the hose except of its own. The flexible hose consists of light wall, which is designed to carry the external loads. The extra weight will stretch and stress the hose and will cause failure.
No Imposition Of Torque
When matching up fittings one should not impose the torque on the hose connector. If the hose is rotated with force then there will be a residual torque stress in the connector, which will cause cracking of corrugations on the fitting joint.

No Use Of Wrench On Hoses
If possible, one can use hex end fitting or also can use the wrench on the fitting length provided. The wrench should be used on the end fittings to keep the hose from being torqued.
